Geoff Jenkins

Geoff Jenkins has said "Play me or trade me" if the Brewers are willing to trade him should the Cardinals put together a package of JuanE and someone else to try to get him?

JuanE .278 AVG 19 HR 79 RBI 25 2B 30 BB 86 SO .317 OBP .443 SLG

Geoff Jenkins .271 AVG 17 HR 70 RBI 26 2B 56 BB 129 SO .357 OBP .434 SLG

The only real differences i see are Jenkins walks more but he strikes out more.
What do you guys think?

I said no
Because we had enough trouble against LHP without dumping one of our better batters against the freaks.

I'm sure you mean 'freaks'
in the nicest of connotations.

Of Course
I'm just jealous.

I don't get it
Why even make that trade? Jenkins is getting 7 mill this year w/ a club option for 9 mill next. And Enc is getting 5 this year and 6.5 next. Milwaukee is a cash strapped organization as well and won't eat any of his contract. And what you may pick up in batting, you lose in defense(something the Cards emphasize). Jenkins can play either corner, but can't play center. Enc can. And Jenkins is 2 years older.

The whole idea doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe someone else out there has something I'm missing.

You ain't missing a dang thing...
Geoff Jenkins is my example of players that are overvalued in fantasy baseball because of the Baseball Tonight effect.  People know his name because he is on TV every week because he hits a dinger a week or more.  That hides the fact that he's a middling outfielder.

He definitely does not hit a dinger a week
but that's a good point anyway.  He was an all-star one year, so he's got name value, which can cloak the fact that he is on the decline.

Math...
About 24 weeks in a season, and he's hit over 20 five different times.  That's what I mean about a dinger a week.

Great Spring Training Story
I posted this in my Duncan projection but this thread seems more fitting.

Funny story - Back in 2004 I went out to Arizona for spring training for spring break with a bunch of buddies. We arrived Sunday morning and just decided to go to the closest game which was a Brewers-Angels game. We sat in the grass in left field. Jenkins was playing left and by the third batter he already had 2 errors. We started razzing him pretty bad and after the third pitch to the fourth batter he turned around and gave us the bird. Very next pitch, fly ball in the gap, Jenkins floated over, lost the ball in the sun, and ball bounced off his glove for error number three. By the second inning he was playing right field, which i would like to think was some of my doing.

Jenkins is upset
and is telling Milwaukee to trade him if he isn't going to play everyday.  He's in a contract year and doesn't want to platoon.

He wouldn't be any happier here.

Jenkins is a bum...
All he did last year was ruin the one Cards game I got to see in person by taking TJ deep in the bottom of the ninth. Most Brewers fans I talk to think he is overrated (although they don't think Ben Sheets is...go figure). They would take Jenkins for Cyborg in a heartbeat.

Do you think
that Sheets is overrated?  He has been hurt a lot the last two years, but when he gets on the mound he gets it done.  Looking at his numbers from last year, if he stays healthy this year he will dominate.  He still has that hammer.

Last year
despite limited duty,  Sheeter struck out 116 while only walking 11.   His season was nearly unprecidented.

Jeff Sackmann highlighted how unique it was in this Hardball Times article:

Do I think Sheets is overrated?
I've lived in Wisconsin for five out of the last six years, and they still deify a NOW overrated player in Brett Favre. Many Wisconsonites are Cubs fans, as it's Packers, Badgers, Bucks, Cubs, Brewers (in that order of fan following, from my experience). When he's healthy, Sheets is awesome. So was Junior Griffey at one time. I would say right now, my answer is no. Mark Prior is overrated. Kerry Wood is still riding the coattails of one exceptional game and is overrated. The jury is still out on Sheets.

Well
Griffey is just one year removed from hitting .301/.369/.576 with 35 HR.  He's still a good baseball player.

Agreed, Valatan...
Griffey is or still can be a good baseball player. My post referred to being awesome...and, well, I highly doubt Griffey will achieve that again, even when healthy.
