Non-Cardinal Notes

Two non-Cardinal related notes: (I searched the site and did not find this anywhere else.  If I missed it, I truly apologize for repeat info.)

Jose Guillen about to sign with Royals for 3 years and $36 million.

Jake Peavy could be making $87.5 million over the next 6 seasons.

The Nationals are in the process
of cornering the all prospects with baggage outfield market...they have Milledge and Dukes in the fold already, and they only paid about 41 cents on the dollar.  Milledge and Dukes is going to be exciting on the same team.  Heck, if only one of them pans out, it's a coup.

I have praised Dayton Moore in the
past, but I do not understand this Jose Guillen signing.  It just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of what they were doing.

I saw all about Jake Peavey last night.  It made me want to cry.  Kudos to the Padres for taking care of their own.

And I am sick of hearing about Johan to the Yankees.  I bet some team comes in out of nowhere and grabs him.

The Marlins got quite a haul from Detroit, but Detroit is now the team to beat....and they are going for it.

Huh?
The Yankees appear to be out of the Santana race, looks like the BoSox are going to get him.

I don't really foresee Santana being all that great over the next five or six seasons.  If my team had prospects and money to blow I'd much rather them go after Bedard or Harren.

Guillen
Dayton Moore has done a fantastic job here in KC (yes, I live here...no, the Cardinals are still my favorite team).  I think the Guillen signing means that they are serious about being contenders now, as opposed to "on the road to being condenders."  I would be VERY surprised if the Royals do not bring in another impact starter for a little too much money.  They believe that their group of youngsters needs to start winning now to have that winning mentality.  They're going to try to make a run over the next few years instead of waiting around for everything to pan out how they want "eventually."
