New Blog: UW Dawg Pound launches! Bar-right-arrows

The Cabrera & Willis deal was a travesty of Justice!

Mo should have been in the thick of it with this deal. That was our needs to a tee.

I am fully aware at this moment in time that we will suck eggs for the next few years. I am outraged. The "right players" were out there to trade for and spend money and we didn't acquire them.

Dewitt lies and MO is full of sh*t. I guess Izturis was the right guy to waste money on and to pretend we want to compete. We are a garbage can team or at least that is the philosphy and I for one am tired of this nonsense. Call me impatient or just call me out but Mo had his chance and blew it big time.

Maybe we can be competitive by 2011. Might as well deal Pujols as much as I love to watch him play. I mean by the time we have the talent to compete again he will be done with us.

I think the best thing to do now is to keep what we have and tell Rolen to shut up and play baseball. We should sign Eck back too and just wait for a better time.

[Update: azruavatar] I'm going to shut down these comments to prevent an all out flame war. They may be reopened later but for now, let's keep it civil and germane to Cardinal baseball. [/update]

You need to think before you post.
Per ESPN:

"The Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers have agreed in principle on a trade that will send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for key prospects, sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons on Tuesday.

The Tigers would send outfielder Cameron Maybin, pitcher Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and three other minor league pitchers to the Marlins."

So you're saying we had the horses to make this kind of deal?

What are you smoking?

Not so fast
We COULD have matched that offer.

It would have gutted the rest of the talent from our team, but it could have been done.

Do you just like seeing your screen name
on the front page when you check the site? This is getting unbelievable.
I will be brief.

I have no idea
what that's supposed to mean, so I'll just guess myself.

maybe...
... Wainwright, Rasmus, Anderson, Garcia, Perez, Ottovino.

that might have gotten it done. all that for a #5 starter and a second 3rd baseman.

oh, and then we'd have to sign them both. and Pujols would probably love it when Cabrera is making $10mn more per year than him.

yeah, i mean, seriously: what the hell is wrong with Mo?

You
need your own blog.

You just made me giggle.
I really didn't mean to cause a fuss I just have some very strong opinions. My only mistake was posting them.

nah, post away
just be considerate of the rest of us who want to read what you write; when you write the same thing in 5 different places and then the same people reply the same thing in 5 different places it gets very tiring.
It's easier not to make the mistake than to make the mistake and try to fix it. -Mo

Those who constantly bash
Dewitt/Front Office need to take the time to gain at least some limited knowledge of our farm system. We simply don't have the talent to match that offer, even if we had included Rasmus.

You may be right about sucking on eggs for a few years, but this sort of deal (if we had been able to get it done for Rasmus, Garcia, Ottavino, Anderson, Reyes, and Duncan, for instance) would lead us to being competitive for the next two years and egg sucking for the next dozen.

Jocketty was able to construct a great team through blockbuster trades like this. But we're paying for it now with our aging/injury prone core.

This is the third time today
that someone has created a diary about the exact same topic for which there is already another diary. The diary immediately before this one, posted not two hours ago, for which there are already 28 comments is to discuss this exact trade. Why do we feel the need to create another diary about the exact same thing rather than posting your comments on the diary that is already going?

Would this site be better with 1000 1-comment diaries? First Rolen, then Reyes, now the Fla/Det trade. These are all worthwhile discussions worthy of diaries. But each additional comment doesn't warrant its own diary. Your comments, Blazer, are worthwhile and respected but they should have gone in the diary that was created just 2 hours prior on this exact topic.

The discussions of these rumors and trades will be much easier to follow and better to get involved in if we consolidate them as much as possible.

P.S. -- "the DeWitt lies and Mo is full of shit" stuff isn't at all worthwhile and probably violates the community guidelines It's OK to criticize the Cards organization, including Mo and DeWitt (though I don't agree with your take at all) but the name-calling is utterly worthless and, frankly, beneath you.

Don't worry...
I'm done. I wanted this real bad and the team needed it badly. I won't post anymore for sure. Just trying to lobby for a smart move. Anytime you get overly attached to your prospects you risk blowing any value they had. Reyes and Milledge are prime examples. I hope Rasmus fills the bill because if he doesn't you all who say he is untouchable will be wiping egg off your face.

Be cool, brother
No need to be "outraged" about this deal. It's only baseball.

Save your outrage for something truly outrageous. Baseball is not one of those things, even if it is the Cardinals.

Cabrera was never a possibility for this team anyway. It's silly to think he was. Being competitive for 2008 was never a possibility for this team, either. It's silly to think it was.

Have a sense of perspective, man.

Red Blazer
you have been posting comments for a month, crusading for the Cards, to trade the farm for Cabera. whose fat lazy ass, I don't personally care to see in St. Louis, but you obivously think there is no price to great to pay for this guy. When I read of the trade today I thought it would finally shut you up, but I see it didn't.
