Christmas time advice?

The situation...Strangely, I am more enthused (that is to say interested in) this coming Cardinal season than I have been in a while {'06 and '07 really beat me up,}
Add... I am as computer illiterate as they come, and I have just a dinker Dell PC, with cable feed.
Add... There aren't enough Cardinal games TELEVISED (free) that I get to see: getting only the fortunate times that St. Louis is carried by ESPN, national Fox, FSN-Ohio Fox {only Reds' games}, and of course WGN (Cubs)and TBS (Braves). {I live in metro Louisville and thus no chance at St. Louis stations.)
Add... For the last three years I HAVE subscribed to the MLB-Radio package, but a) radio just don't cut it compared to being able to SEE on TV, and b) tho' I am fond of them, I have observational reasons to believe that Shannon and Rooney are... let's just say, 'incomplete' in their observations.

Equals... I want to splurge this year and subscribe to some kind of TV package over the internet.

Thus... I seek advice, perspective and instructions from my (maybe) kind fellows here at the VEB... who have used computer-fed TV packages before.

NOTES: I'm only interested in Cardinal games and a 162-game package is probably more than I can handle, time-wise, and money wise.
I remember reading horror stories from some users, (blackouts, faulty or clumsy tech) and given my low level of computer competency, I don't want to get frustrated, or have to buy a new computer, or put more buzzers and bells on the old war-horse to get it to 'work.)

Suggestion -- rather than clutter up dairy space with info irrelevant to others, I welcome any kind VEB-er to use my e-mail.

Thanks in advance, and I hope I have not violated a rule here, but I quake at jumping into this project all by myself.

Just get mlb.com monthly package for about 18 a month. That way as long as there is an operable P.C. available your watching ball. There are some goofy blackout restrictions though...
"Why does he keep saying that?"

MLB Extra Innings on Direct TV
I suggest getting Direct TV.  I don't know if you can get a dish where you live.  I just could not imagine trying to watch a game on my computer.  It sounds awful.

Direct TV- Free Install generally 2-3 receivers.
Direct TV- probably the cheap package is $29/month or $39/month
MLB extra innings-  Think it's about $194 for a season

This seems like a good deal if you want to watch games as you said.  I just think if you want to watch a game on a computer you better go get a nice computer to handle the speed of the telecast.  I would find it annoying to not get a good stream because your computer sucks.

Absolutely DirectTV MLB is best
I have been very satisfied with the MLB package offered by DirectTV much better than computer feed.  I live just across the river in Lanesville, IN so you should get the same regional feeds.

Direct TV
You could probably help out with the exact cost better than me.  I do not have direct tv.  I live in Iowa and I get a cable package which includes FSN Midwest.  So I get all the games they put on FSN Midwest then I get all the Sunday games on KWKB(CW) whatever it is now.  Then I get the ESPN games.

Direct TV
I pay about $50 per month for a fairly basic DTV package that includes a HD signal and the required recievers. (you pay by the number of recievers you rent) .Then I pay about $110 per season for the MLB package, you get a a smalll discount for sigining up early and/or you are a return customer.  As far as the number of games, I get all home and away games except about 5-10 games when the local STL TV stations broadcast.  Don't expect all the games to be broadcast by Fox Midwest,  About half the games you get are broadcast by the opposings teams affliates.  Kinda good you get a different perspective on our team. Check with your DTV to get an idea of what broadcast region Iowa is in because different regions have different formats, for example, I am actually in the Cincinnati Reds region so my blackout restrictions may be different than yours. Hope this helps.

DirecTv
I live in the metro Louisville area too. I have had DTV for 3 years now with the MLB EI package, and it has been great.

The only drawback is half the games are the opposing teams bcast, and maybe 5-10 games through the whole year blacked out.

You can spilt the payment into 4 monthly payments also.

I have MLB Extra Innings on Comcast
it's very good, only minor quibbles:
  1. No hi-def regional games: only hi-def are ESPN, TBS and local.
  2. Start and Stop time:  Feed only starts at EXACTLY on the hour the game starts and then will end even before they go to the final commercial after the last pitch.  Sometimes on West Coast games, it'll stay longer just because I think they fell asleep.
  3. Blackouts for games that aren't even televised in your ZONE.

Comcast
i get HD with DTV but 90% of the HD games are the friggen Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox and Cubs.  It seems whenever Fox Midwest broadcast in HD, I have to watch the broadcast by the opposing team.

TBS
I remember hearing that TBS will no longer be airing Braves games, since they are being sold. I may be wrong, but i have a good feeling that there will be no more games on TBS besides the playoffs.
sign someone GOOD this time!
