Over and under on Duncan

I see a lot of speculation here on trading Duncan, but I have a hard time believing that will happen on TLR's watch.  I am curious how many folks really think Duncan would be traded for anything other than a stupid one-sided scenario in our favor.  I think he is probably our best chip, but I am not holding my breath...

Poll
How long will Chris Duncan remain a Cardinal?
  • gone before the winter meetings
  • gone before the start of spring training
  • gone before opening day
  • gone before July 31st, 2008
  • gone before September 1st, 2008
  • here as long as TLR wears birds on the bat

The Cardinals would be "very reluctant" to deal Duncan.  I take that to mean they aren't going to trade him unless someone knocks our socks off with a good offer.

Duncan
I think Duncan could be traded.  Dave is a professional and so is Tony so I doubt they are blocking the team from trading Chris.

I want to see Duncan play 150+ games this year before making any trade.  I want to see him hit against LH pitchers consistently.  I doubt if healthy he tanks this year.  So his value should be the same late in the 2008 season as it is now.  I would really want STL to see what he has prior to trading him.  I could see Dunc getting traded if Rick proves he can hit for power/obp/average.  If Rick can't do that they would be crazy to trade Dunc.  Rasmus will be on the team in 2009 but who is to say he will hit 20+ HR what is needed.  Dunc can get 20+ HR for sure I think but besides Albert no one else can for sure.

why I'm in the pro-Duncan club
with the disclaimer that I almost exclusively go by what I SEE with my own eyes, watching on televison... I would be unhappy to see Chris Duncan leave the team.
His power is a given, but I see two things about him I especially like.  To me, he seems balanced and comfortable at the plate, with an idea of what he is trying to do -- unlike (again to MY eye) the likes of Adam Kennedy, Encarnacion, Preston Wilson, for instance.
And, what you rarely hear mentioned, he seems to run the bases far better than you would think a gangly galoot like him would.  He's not really slow, always seems to hustle, and has intelligence with just the right amount of risk-taking aggressiveness.
Yes, he whiffs too much, and is somewhat prone to mini-slumps.  And yes, he is a Manny Ramirez, Adam Dunn type 'adventure' in left field.  But even there he has better body control than Dunn does, and a better arm (altho I realize THAT doesn't say much, because I think I have a better arm than Dunn).. and ulike Ramirez, he always husles.

Balanced and Comfortable?
Not sure that I agree with that.  Maybe when he hit in front of Pujols, but when he moved elsewhere in the order, I thought he was guessing up there and got caught; i.e, "the whiiiiifffff".

In the field, he's ok.  There's worse out there.

Give him a full season
It seemed he would start to hit a groove, and then get benched against a lefty.  I think his future is as an everyday player, not a platoon guy.  Last year was still only his second year as an outfielder.  He'll never be a great fielder, but I think he can be league average once he learns to make better reads.
