Bringing Back Dream Weaver?

I was wondering how others might feel about the Cards bringing back Dream Weaver?  I think Jeff's had some success with Cards and Duncan, so it would be good for him to be here again. I am just not sure how well he would fit into Cards' future plans.  He should be reasonably priced now (in the bargain bin), and I doubt con-man Boras can do his trick again.  I am not necessarily rooting for him to be back, but at least he is a somewhat known quantity with the Cards.  Can he be worse than Kip Wells?

"Would the Cardinals consider bringing back Jeff Weaver?
-- James T.

I asked this question directly of general manager John Mozeliak during the Winter Meetings, and he didn't rule it out. He also didn't show much enthusiasm for the proposition. He did say, though, that the bridge isn't completely burned.

The deal is this: Scott Boras is not going to move quickly on Weaver as long as he has bigger fish to fry -- such as Kyle Lohse, who reportedly may seek five years. So once the Boras Corp. gets around to dealing on Weaver, the Cards probably hope to be squared away in their rotation.

It's not a non-starter, but it's a long shot."

Also, here is a Mariner's fan's memory of Dream Weaver last season.

I'd like
him to come back for at least one game so I can stand up,cheer and thank him for giving me one of the best nights of my life

I'm in
if it's for a one year, incentive-laden contract. LaDunc did get some positive results from him. It would be better than Lohse for five years and major dollars, and better than sending off what little we have on the farm for some other suspect. Let's face it- Santana is not on our horizon.

Initially I said no,
but I guess I'd go for one year at $2m + incentives.

You have to include an option year
Considering what he did to the team before, you have to have at least 1 club option year in it or maybe 2.

With the moves
that Houston are making, they could possibly have Weaver on their radar already. Don't know how he'd do in that ballpark though.

He's sooooo bad.
I am sorry folks, but come back to your senses.  The reason he has played for half the teams in the major leagues is b/c he is bad.  He is an anorexic Sidney Ponson with a slurve that works every 4th game.

Great stuff. HAHA.
Looks like Edmonds...err... Rasmus is out in the bathrooms or grabbing a Coke from the vending machines.

Yadi
I think with that alignment they'd need to put Schumaker at catcher.  Yadi doesn't have that kind of range.

Would rather have Prior...
We are going to suck hind teat in '08. Weaver only got hot for about 6wks and was sketchier than the guy that feeds the ducks around Forest Park.

Prior is going to be a waste for most of '08 (probably back in August). Sign him to a three year deal, or two with a team option for 2010. He could be another diamond in the rough like a younger Chris Carpenter.

Call up Ernie
Think I'd rather Ernie Broglia to the plate against Prior when his arm was connected to his body than sign his arm now...or Weavers. I dont think Prior is coming back.

Lou had 3 1/3 mizzable years as a Cub. Does that count?

Trade for Sean Rodriguez! (But please dont call him S-Rod!)

Just imagine though....
If the cards got Prior and he came back better than ever.  Ohhhh, how the Cub fans would be pissed!  That would be just too sweet.

And anything that pissess off Cub fans always brings a smile to my face!

I would say no thanks...
Apparently we are rebuilding.

Agree. Just say no to Mr. Weaver
Actually Thompson, Wellemeyer, and Reyes had  better records at a fraction of the cost and on the other side of thirty.  But Jeff's kind of cool with the crazy hair and under nourished look...

we traded edmonds
if we trade rolen it could be said we are rebuilding. But the outfield still will be ok..Also if you take the money that edmonds makes and say they write off jaun for 6.5 that is 13.5 mill I hope they dont spend that on silva but you never know.

Dream Weaver Jr.
I'd much rather have Jered than Jeff.

Weaver
While I think its conceivable that he could be respectable under Duncan, its more likely he'll be pretty bad.  I think we're better off trying out Wellemeyer to be honest.

I am very much in favor of this
I would be a huge fan of bringing Weaver back.  After a rough start with us in '06, he went 3-1 at the end of the regular season with a 3.18 ERA.  He then went 3-2 in the postseason with a 2.43 ERA.  He also averages 211.1 innings per year throughout his career.
I don't think he will be the best starter in the world, but I feel that we can give him a one year +option deal that would keep us from being handcuffed to a long/expensive contract for Lhose or Silva while still giving us a decent option with some upside for cheap next year.
I feel like he would automatically become our 3rd best starter if he signed.
(also, keep in mind that after his terrible start last year, he rebounded to go 6-4 with a 3.6 ERA from June through August before slipping a little in September).
