Rolen et al. for Cabrera?

Long time reader, first time poster.  I was making my cardinals' blog rounds when I happened on this ditty at cardinalsdiaspora.com.  It mentions a trade  between the cardinals and the marlins which would send rolen, duncan, and reyes to the marlins for cabrera.  As a cardinals fan, I like the trade.  However, I don't see rolen waving his no trade clause to head to florida.  I would also assume the cardinals would eat part of his contract.  If this is for real though, I am giddy.

I like the part...
where he throws in Willis for kicks. Why not Uggla as well? We need 2nd sacker...
Who needs Antonetti? Give Luhniak a chance!

I wonder
If people read this stuff before they post it.  I mean, if you're the Fish and you have one of the three most gifted hitters in all of baseball, you wouldn't just toss him to some other team just because you won't be able to resign him in a few years.  You wait until some nutzo team comes along with a package of prospects to drool over.  I mean would whoever wrote this in the first place over at diaspora trade a young Pujols (ca. 2004) for Duncan, Reyes, and Rolen in their current states?  I'm thinking no.

update
cardinalsdiaspora put the kibash on this, citing the twins remaining interest.

by Crentist on Nov 8, 2007 6:29 PM EST reply actions

Quite possibly...
the least informed trade suggestion I've heard so far this off-season.

Hey, anyone think we can dish Adam Kennedy, Ricky, and Pineiro to the Twins for Johan?

by mynameistyler on Nov 8, 2007 6:41 PM EST reply actions

meh
Only if the Twins throw in Garza too.

by Yellow Dog on Nov 8, 2007 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

If we...
throw in Tyler Johnson, maybe we can get Liriano just as a cheap throw-in?

by mynameistyler on Nov 8, 2007 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Hell
that should be good enough to get Nathan as well.
The hot stove is burning...

by cardzfan24 on Nov 8, 2007 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

Well while we're at it
We might as well toss in John Rodriguez and Brendan Ryan and they may give us Morneau.

by redbirdnation8206 on Nov 8, 2007 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

I think...
we've got the pieces to get this done, gentlemen.  Make the call.

by mynameistyler on Nov 8, 2007 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

Ok, here we go:
The greatest, most fair trade ever made:

Cards get Joe Nathan, Justin Morneau, Johan Santana, Matt Garza, and Francisco Liriano as a last minute throw in.

Twins get Brendan Ryan, John Rodriguez, Adam Kennedy, Rick Ankiel, Joel Piniero, and Tyler Johnson.

The Twinks could have Ryan and Punto duke it out for the scrappy-playsalloverthedamninfield infielder, put JRod at first to replace Morneau, and have TJ close.  I think its fair!

by redbirdnation8206 on Nov 8, 2007 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

ha
no WAY should the cards make that trade!!

johan is good but he will be gone in a year. don't give up young talent for a rental!!!11!

liriano is hurt all the time so whatever we do not need another mulderrrrr

joe nathan and justin morneau are overrated and we already have better players at their positions.

also we are giving up way too much on this deal. for starters i think if you take rick ankiel's performance just in the first few games he was up, before the hgh thing came out, and projected it over the whole season, he basically would break the home run record, so i assume he will do that this year. why would you give that up?

the loss of brendan ryan and adam kennedy would mean the loss of our entire middle infield and most of the team's gritty hustle factor, i think ryan has the potential to be a david eckstein and kennedy could rebound to be an all star.

basically no way do i make this deal if i am mo', except i guess it would free up a starting spot for aaron miles and maybe with ankiel gone we could resign so taguchi. i love those guys.

Good analysis
But you forgot that we can't afford any of those guys anyway!

by nybirdfan on Nov 8, 2007 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but...
now we're screwed up the middle...giving up our only SS and starting 2B!!!

by cardzfanbub on Nov 9, 2007 8:20 AM EST up reply actions

You forgot Joe
It won't be fair for us unless they cough up Mauer.

Ugh...
quite possibly the dreariest time of the year for reading about baseball.

"hey, we should trade crap player a and crap player b and moderately effective player c for (insert youthful, inexpensive superstar)."

rinse, repeat.

Can we please get some perspective?  Can we try to keep the intelligence level of the discussion above 6th grade?

by farley503 on Nov 8, 2007 9:17 PM EST reply actions

Following your pattern:
Brendan Ryan, Ryan Ludwick, and Yadier Molina to the Brew Crew for Ryan Braun.  I think that would work, right?

by redbirdnation8206 on Nov 8, 2007 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

Yesss!
I just busted up laughing.  That was good!

by ICbirdfan on Nov 8, 2007 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

How about...
skip, tyler johnson, and duncan for Prince Fielder. We can move him to third after we trade rolen for Cabrera. Then put Cabrera in left. Genius!

I hear it...
from good word via Cardinals Diaspora that these trades are already in the works.

by mynameistyler on Nov 9, 2007 12:24 AM EST up reply actions

This just in via
ESPN.com:  Cardinals trade Mark McCormack, Jarrett Hoffpauir, Rick Ankiel, a player and a piece of equipment to be named later to the San Diego Padres for Jake Peavy, Adrian Gonzalez, and approximately 6 and a half dozen fish tacos.  Word is the piece of equipment is likely to be a bag of Rawlings baseballs accompanied by a tub of rubbing mud, or possibly 4 fungo bats signed by Jose Oquendo.  More on this breaking story later.

I feel bad
for the first-time poster who started this.  Kind of feels like you guys are just enjoying the heckling.  It was a little funny at first, but jeez.....

by siddfynch on Nov 9, 2007 1:14 AM EST reply actions

I agree
this is a bit harsh for a first-time poster.  Lighten up on the guy a little.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I LIKE having more people around here that are willing to post.

A couple jabs at someone for a highly unlikely trade post is one thing, but 20 comments ripping a first-time poster is a little overboard.

Remember, we all, at one point or another, thought that the trade we made on MVP Baseball is something the Cardinals should do in real life.

by mtalken on Nov 9, 2007 7:56 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah,
it's not as if Dr. Crentist was saying there was a possibility the Cards could trade Rolen, Duncan, and Reyes to the Marlins for Miguel Cabrera, or something equally as insane.

I just assume so...
his name sounds an awful like dentist...

you guys are a bunch of anti denti snobs
i dont have a problem with newbies. we were all newbies at one point. but all newbies should follow the rule that jim rome tries to have his callers follow on his show. i'll add i haven't listened to rome in years & i know his act is a tired one, but it still applies.

have a take & dont suck.

as long as the newbies, or any one for that matter, follows that rule i have no beef with them. but remember, this is Lboros house, not ours. so if he doesn't have a problem with some one, then neither should we.

Please know...
I was not heckling the poster NEARLY as much as I was heckling Cardinals Diaspora.

This is a garbage rumor and if an opinion blog is going to go out and post something as absurd as this, expect to take heat.

by mynameistyler on Nov 9, 2007 11:06 AM EST reply actions

no problem
somewhere in all this, it was easy to know exactly who the target was...or had become.
