With the Twins change in philosophy, they appear willing to take offers on young pitching. Matt Garza represents a pretty appealling option for the Cardinals, though a trade match may be difficult. Garza is 24, posted a 3.65 ERA last season, and is under control for an additional 3 years before hitting free agency, I believe.
That being said, I sure most of you are screaming at your monitors that the Cardinals themselves have a dearth of major league ready position prospects. The best match between the teams would be Colby Rasmus, but as most here feel, he should be kept. Rasmus is the only Cardinals prospect that is remotly comprable to the type of hitters sought by the Twins (Delmon Young, BJ Upton, etc.).
An alternative package that might entice would be Chris Duncan and Brian Anderson, along with a young arm like Ottavio/Perez/etc. This provides the team with a proven MLB ready youngster to add to their ranks. Anderson is a good move because he is blocked with the Cardinals. Though the Twins have Mauer, Anderson would allow the team to shift Mauer to 1st, which would prolong his career.
I understand this is not as appealing an option for the Twins as young or even Rasmus, but it improves both teams. The Twins have a strgoner lineup. Cuddyer to center to make room for Duncan. I think this is an option at least worth pursuing.
