Interesting stuff from the senior "numbers" guy with the Redbirds.

Plus, look at that World Series ring.

Boomer.

great interview
Sig Mejdal, Senior Quantitative Analyst, St. Louis Cardinals ... I knew there was a highly educated guy down in the bowels of Busch crunching numbers but now we have a name and a face to go with it.  Thanks for the link.  Great interview.  Amazing how this guy got his job and only Jeff Luhnow gave him an offer.  Love that he went to the winter meetings uninvited sitting in the lobby for 3 days like a lost puppy dog begging for a bone.

One interesting tidbit from the interview ... the info he produces is used on the minor league side but very little on the major league side.  That has to change.  But will it?

Yes, if he can
turn the tide from the recent bad signings and trades The Cards have been making, he'll sure earn his pay.

Cleveland
We tried to hire away Cleveland's assistance GM and they might be the most advanced team at using the quantitative analysis at the ML level.  Will Mozeliak have Sig work up analysis for ML decisions?  I sure hope so.

fantasyland
Matt Walker picked Sig up at the winter meetings and hired him to be his analyst for his Tout Wars fantasy team.  The next year Luhnow hired him.  Read Fantasyland by Matt Walker.  It is fascinating and funny - and you'll get a unique perspective on Sig in the process.

it is a great book
author's name is sam walker, though, not matt.

after you're done reading the book, read my interview w/ walker here.

thanks
My bad.  I lent it out a few months ago so I was going on memory.  If I only had the internet handy I could have looked it up to be sure.

that video has been around for a while
i'd love to get in his computer and look at all the stuff he has, though i doubt i would be able to understand half of it. i like knowing this guy is helping with the draft. a lot of these college "sleeper" guys we are getting in the later rounds are a direct result of sig.
