good game
(1) Who will be the pitchers with the most starts (top 5)?

wain
loop
mulder
reyes*
piniero

*you said most starts, not most starts with stl.

(2) Who is most likely to be traded this offseason - Rolen, Duncan, Looper, Reyes, other? Where does this player go?

reyes. no idea; hopefully, to oakland or the angels for pitching, or somewhere like atlanta or arizona for a young middle infielder.

(3) What kind of numbers (HRs, AVG/OBP/SLG line) will Rick Ankiel put up in 2008?

26 HR; .271/.331/.510.

(4) Who will be Cards second baseman by season's end - Kennedy, Ryan, mystery player?

depends what you mean. kennedy is the starter. below league average for the season, but still a substantial improvement over 2007. but depending how things go for the team, hoffpauir may get some september starts.

(5) _ will be the Cards starting SS on opening day.

brendan ryan.

(6) The 2008 version of Rick Ankiel will be _ (Fills a void on the roster and arrives sometime after August either via trade or farm system)

hoffpauir.

(7) _ will rocket up the ranks of minor league prospects by the start of spring training (other than Colby Rasmus).

not sure what exactly would happen between now and spring training that would give us much more information than we already have. uh, allen craig?

(8) The Tribe's biggest off-season trade acquisition will be a _ (give the player's position)

the tribe? i'm not sure they're going to do much of anything, or need to. maybe a left fielder.

i'm guessing this was supposed to be about the cards? if so, i'm going to guess a starting pitcher, optimistically.

(9) If we are out of contention by the trade deadline, the first player to go is _.

looper. i'm guessing if we're out by the trade deadline, it's because rolen has performed badly, which means he'd have no trade value. this also takes into consideration that reyes is gone before then.

(10) Who will be the biggest free agent name that we sign this off-season?

ugh. it really pains me to say, like, kyle lohse. at least i've got brendan ryan up there already so i can't go with izturis.

(11) _will be Dave Duncan's project heading into next season.

well, i'm gonna say he doesn't really get a new project - he's still got incompletes on his old ones - mulder, looper, and maybe piniero.

Ticky-tack
Mark Prior is not a free agent. Under Chicago control until after 2008.

However, he is rumored to be on the trading block. Not that the Cubs would ever trade him to the Cardinals.

my guesses
  1. wainwright, reyes, piniero, looper, mulder
  2. i don't believe any of those will be traded, but if any, it'd be reyes, probably for another starter.  hopefully it's not in a mulderesque deal.
  3. 32 hr, .230/.290/.490.  i think it'll be an all-or-nothing sort of year for rick.
  4. kennedy will bounce back.
  5. this is a tough one, but i have a bad feeling it's going to be cesar izturis.  tony loves the latin shortstops.
  6. colby rasmus, after edmonds injures something.  why not?
  7. i don't know our prospects that well.  mike parisi?  i read somewhere he could have a shot at a rotation slot.
  8. starting pitcher.
  9. jason isringhausen.
  10. joel piniero.  seriously.
  11. looper's still somewhat of a project - he needs to pitch deeper than 5 or 6 innings more often.
  12. the reds will finish 4th.

Your SLG is pretty low for Ankiel's line...
considering 25 HR's.

In 525 AB's if he hits .270 (142 hits) he would have 117 singles 25 HR's and no doubles or triples.  Lower than 525 AB's and it's impossible to get a .400 SLG while batting .270 w/25HR's.

Sorry to nit-pick.

TIEBREAKER: The Reds will finish 2008 in __ place.

A. I predict they will be in 1st at the break; then Homer Bailey's arm will fall off, Aaron Harang will have a mental breakdown, and Bronson Arroyo will drop his first solo album, get a spot on the Lilith Fair tour, and leave the club to become a rock star.  After trading Adam Dunn, Griffey's hamstring will officially get it's own spot on the disables list and the Reds will free fall into last, where Dusty Baker will blame it all on Brandon Phillips for not being a team player.
