Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Our future GM?

Here's a great read from 2003 about Chris Antonetti, the Indians' assistant GM and stat-freak.

" Helping to separate head from heart, and gut instinct from statistical reality, is the role of the Indians' confidential computer database, DiamondView. Consider it a kind of truth machine, whose function is to temper, or even override, subjective measurements with objective ones.

Antonetti, the Tribe's best analytical mind, oversees DiamondView's use in team decisions such as the Thome negotiations. The database is believed to be among the most sophisticated in baseball. The Indians are so protective of it, they copyrighted it."

Here's the link to the story.

I don't know if we'll interview this guy, but he would probably get along with Luhnow, don't you think?

Agreed
This guy would get along with Lunhow very well and they could build us a fantasy baseball team together while on break at a Star Trek convention...Just kidding, this guy would be a good choice for our next GM. I do worry a little about getting too geeky in the front office. Players are still humans and that must always be taken under consideration.
How about handin' me another helpin' of those mashed taters...thank you very much!

luhnow knows they're humans
read his comments about andres rosales in our most recent Q+A. read his comments about kozma's personal qualities after they drafted kozma.

that was interesting about Kozma
didn't he also talk about trying to add into his drafting formula some way to measure for important intangibles?  I thought he said that the Cards statistical drafting formula would differ from other teams because they were interested in interviewing the player, interviewing people who knew him, and watching for certain intangibles when he plays.  I'm just going on distant memory here.  I may be way off.

Future STL GM
I do hope we go more in the "Moneyball 2.0" direction.  I have watched the Rockies all year, and while I still think they need a true #1 Starter (see: Cardinals, 2004.  There is talk of Kazmir out here), I have thoroughly enjoyed the team O'Dowd has put together.

Love my Cardinals, but Go Rockies!
