larussa a pirate?

so, jim tracy got fired as the manager of the pirates. tony's main supporter, walt is now gone and i think tony mostly likely will not return to saint louis. what are the chances of him landing with the pirates? i mean, think about it. they had good young pitchers in the rotation and a couple of very good ones; snell and gorzelanny. also, matt morris is there (im not sure if he is a free agent or not this offseason). their lineup is decent with bay, sanchez, nady and paulino. what do you guys think? also, the pirates are in the nl central and would not take that many moves for them to be competitive next season. just a thought.

I just
can't see Tony with a small-market team, especially Pittsburgh where it doesn't seem they actually want to win.

Not likely.
Remember... La Russa is a "win now" manager, and the Pirates aren't there.  I guess anything could happen, but I just can't see it fitting the current La Russa paradigm.

Yankees
They'd have to commit to greatly expand the payroll for Tony to take that the Pirates job IMHO.  Can't see Pirate ownership doing that.  What if the Yankees get swept out of the playoffs in the first round by the Indians?  As Tony replaced Joe Torre in STL, could he do the same thing with the NYY?  I know, Tony has a thin skin and the NY media is not for the faint of heart.  But Tony loves playing on the big stage and there is none bigger than the Bronx.  This  is going to be Tony's last gig.  Why not go large?

I'm waiting to see how this plays out
there's a lot of speculation that Torre will not be brought back if the Yankees don't advance to the W.S.

Given the emphasis on "tradition" and proven success in Yankees baseball, it's easier for me to see them bringing in TLR with his long, winning resume than Gerardi.  But working with ownership and the NY press would be challenging.

I actually don't think the press in NY is any more obnoxious than Bernie, so if he thought he could put up with him for the last number of years, he may be able put up with NY.  And there are lots of upsides to counterbalance those irritants.

It's a shame that the Pirates are in
the shape they are in.  Bad, bad, deals--for the longest time they have served as a farm system for the rest of the major leagues--giving away players for pennies on the dollar.  They have one of the prettiest and comfortable ballparks in the majors.  Tony would NEVER fit with this club.

P n C Stadium is
a wonderful place to see a game. The city of Pittsburgh is a fantastic town. The people are wonderful. The fans there deserve a better team. We gone twice and have plans to go back next year too. See you there Jill section 109.
