Encarnacion
Anyone got any news on Mr. Encarnacion?

wow
pettitte pitches around a leadoff triple by sizemore...

The Yanks Indians. Pettitte is cutting the young indians down, really dealing like he's in his prime.

by Hammondsbird on Oct 5, 2007 7:09 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah
He's sitting 'em down alright.  Travis Hafner looked downright stupid in his last at bat.

carmona owns rodriguez
3 pitches, 3 swings-and-misses.

by SleepyCA on Oct 5, 2007 7:25 PM EDT reply actions

I'm going to say
that pulling Pettitte here is a mistake.  I understand Joba has been nails, but he's what, 21.

by Hammondsbird on Oct 5, 2007 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Can't ask for better results
Other than that one pitch Carmona serves to Melky, the pitching in this game has been nails on both sides.

by stl tyler on Oct 5, 2007 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

wow, good call
A walk, 2 wild pitches and an HPB so far this inning...

by SleepyCA on Oct 5, 2007 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Pettite was pulled in the 7th
And Chamberlain got the next two Indians out to end the inning.  He didn't melt down til the 8th.

Ahh poor kid
As much as I hate the evil empire, this is hitting a little close to home.  2 wild pitches and a hit batter in this inning so far for Joba Chamberlain.

'Sup with those bugs?
Reminds me a little bit of a game in '98 against the Giants. A swarm of locusts fell on the stadium.

McGwire roped a line drive just over the left field wall. Bonds jumped up to get the ball and came down with a mitt full of critter.

Joba looks like Pigpen out there.

by liam on Oct 5, 2007 8:05 PM EDT reply actions

They were Moths....
I know cuz I swallowed one.  Moth eggs were laid in the new turf.  They all hatched at once, within about an hour of each other.  Slowly the stadium began to fill with them.  At the peak, I estimated a half million moths inside the stadium, based on how many I saw in a cubic meter.

I think that McGwire's shot that night was going to go off the top of the wall, but Bond's moth-filled blind jump pushed it over.  What fun.

yeah...
man, it's all like deja vu to me.  we sure that's joba up there and not our OF masquerading as him?

by Cybit on Oct 5, 2007 8:11 PM EDT reply actions

Carmona over 100 pitches
and he's just getting better, just made jeter look like a fool.

by Hammondsbird on Oct 5, 2007 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

WOW!!!!
Damn.  That was a fine job, just a damn fine job by Fausto.

i really don't understand bunting
with no one out and men on first and second...

by SleepyCA on Oct 5, 2007 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions

on second thought
i guess it puts the winning run on 3rd with one out, but I'd rather see sizemore have a chance to swing the bat.

great game
this post season has already had some memorabley good games

Kenny Lofton is why I love baseball. I could watch him play everyday.

Tribe-Yanks
Now that was a tremendous game.  Always gotta love a fingernail biter where the starters rule!

Go Tribe.

great game
It's fun to see Lofton be a productive member of the the the Tribe, again.  It brings me back to their glory days...  Thome, Vizquel, Manny

Also, I realize it's way off-topic, but...  I'm going to bed.  Off to see the Illini tomorrow.  It'd be nice to see them reclaim some glory too.  It's been a long time since they had a respectable season.

Don't know if this was posted yet
Bernie has a few Jocketty quotes from earlier today:

_______________

The last thread was hijacked, so here is a synopsis of what Jocketty said today at Shannon's:

  • eyes were watering.... as he thanked Cardinals and people inside organizaton for their support....
  • "Times change, things change, and this was a good time for things to change. And it's a good time for me, because I'm beat."
  • "I just wanted to move on...it was probably a good thing to do."
  • Said there were some disagreements, differences in philosophy, but didn't want to badmouth anyone, didn't want to get into it.
  • Will take time off... spend time with kids... wants to vacation... says he's already got some offers (to help other GMs apparently)... but doesn't want to work right now... (sounds like he wants to take a year off). but said he could get bored, never know.
  • Joey, son, is in HS, wants to finish HS here (age 17)...
  • Talked to Tony said Tony was "surprised and disappointed," by the move... didn't know what TLR would do.
  • "There were times during the season when I wondered it was time to leave."

Tony was "surprised and disappointed,"
I would think Tony is gone, and I really hope he gives his decision by Monday.

I'm ready to get it over with and get ready to warm up to a new era for the Cardinals, I think we all are.

The Cards need go into the winter meetings with a new manager & GM decided and focused on a game plan that will hopefully be geared towards either picking up pieces that we need to hopefully compete in the Central next year, or go forward with some sort of youth movement.

I still have mixed feelings about this whole change but I am ready for all of this to end and for the club to decide on a game plan for the future, instead of this vision of a disorganized mess we are in currently.

It would have been nice if the Cards could have done like Houston did last month and announce the GM & Manager have been fired the same day but also giving the fans a feeling that the change will be good for the club.

Picking up Izzy's option
I think they had until after the World Series to pick up his option.  Picking it up so quickly could have been a gesture of good faith to Tony about coming back.

Remember, Mozelak has his hands over all the recent deals and signings.

Are all the series gonna be sweeps?

by zolak16 on Oct 6, 2007 1:58 AM EDT reply actions

could be...
obviously now we're talking about predicting one game, which is just silly. that said, here's my shot at silliness:

i actually expect the yanks to take at least one now that they're not facing cc and carmona. i think the sox definitely look like they could sweep; the angels' lineup just doesn't look like it has enough, and schilling is pretty much a beast in the postseason.

i'd love the cubs to get swept, but rich hill is good and livan hernandez is not. if they continue to get nothing out of soriano, dlee and aram, i guess anything could happen.

absolutely NO IDEA what is going on in the phils/rockies series. absolutely nothing to say about it. however, i would say that in addition to all the other feel-good reasons to be rooting for colorado, if they end up in the series against boston, that would be "rox vs. sox" - kinda catchy.

TBS and MLB are hoping it isn't
there will be a 3 day break between games.

I know they are at least hoping the Yankees make a series out of theirs. I know Fox is praying for a Yankees comeback for their dream ALCS Yankees-Red Sox Series. LOL.

by KYCards on Oct 6, 2007 2:12 AM EDT up reply actions

seriously
mlb.com and whatever other sites are wetting themselves with joy over the ratings because all the big markets are involved - ny, la, chi, phi.

well, guess what - as it stands, all 4 of the bigger markets in the four series are down 2-0. have fun with the ratings in that zona-denver series, tbs.
