no interest in helton?

so espn is reporting that helton was willing to come to st.louis if a trade happened.  however, the cards reportedly had no interest.

now obviously we don't need help at first and helton would be an awfully expensive bench player.

but what about OF?

anybody else think helton could play the outfield?  hehe.  it looks like he played 15 games as an outfielder in 1997 and thats about it.  i mean, he can't be much worse than dunc right?

plus we have a good trading record with the rocks and they apparently are looking for bullpen help which we have plenty off.

i don't know, it just got me thinking that helton sure would be a nice bat in our line-up, lefty too.  albert and helton hitting 3-4, wow....

i wouldn't look forward to the helton/hagin drama after those comments he made however...

money
i know he's owed 90 over the next 5 but the rockies are willing to pick up almost half of that.  helton for 5/45?  doesn't sound too bad to me.

You do realize that 1997 was ten (10) years ago, right?

He is too expensive, on the decline, and plays a position that we have pretty well covered. There is no interest.

too expensive?
i don't think 9/yr is too expensive especially for a hitter of his caliber.

he might be on the decline but so was larry walker and he gave us plenty of good ab's.

and the fact that he hasn't played OF in ten years doesn't mean he can't do it.  plus i think its a little more of a stretch to say we have the OF "well covered" than it is to say helton could play the outfield.

outfield
he has back problems and doesnt move well.  you'd be better off putting albert back in the OF.

larry was only around for two years...well 1.5.  helton has five years to go...lost about 100 points of ops each of the last two years...had a .781 road ops last year...there are lots of reasons to spend the money (and prospects) elsewhere.

No thanks
He hit 15 homers last year, hes 33, so in the decline.

So you want to pay 45 million over 5 years for a guy who will put up similar/less (except for OBP) numbers than Duncan can?

Well,
OBP is pretty cool.

I love Todd Helton, he is due for several more solid years, and the home/road splits can be misleading for other reasons.

That said, there is no place for him in St. Louis. Not happening.

The Red Sox are just getting scarier by the second. Good Lord.

Sure...If
the organization needs to talk with helton if they are considering a deal, and ask if he will play right field, then put Dunc in left, You cold probally include Enc in the deal if helton decided he could play Of. Though he is 33 and by 38, for a transformed 1B, well, we see how that is with Duncan. He has a good bat(sometimes) and would look good in a Cards Uni. Did we ever think about putting Albert back in Left? yea, he cant run but its something to ponder.

his numbers
have shown a drastic decline over the past couple years

I wouldn't want him for even half the money he's owed, especially in 3-4 years

braves
i would like to see him go to the braves. i am not a braves fan it just seems like he would be a good fit.

Why did the Rox trade Shealy?
If a Helton trade was in the pipeline?

couple reasons
They have a first base prospect in Joe Koshansky and if they get Lowell they could possibly move Garrett Atkins to first base.  So there is some depth there.
