I may have this wrong
But I don't believe that any team every no-hit by Ramon Ortiz has won the World Series.

When the antecedent is false...
If a team gets no-hit by Ramon ortiz, then it will win the world series.

I was walking to go see a business friend of mine who sat a few sections over from where I was...minding my own business ...not cheering or anything ...just walking and three "homey's"...surround me and say .." ju know someting man?..the Cardinals Suck...and you suck too"... all up in my face..that is kind of the norm these days.  Oh?..my response to them by the way?..I may suck..but not as good as your momma"!  LOL. it's not so bad
When they open the roof.  What makes me angry is when they leave it closed for no good reason just to make it louder and make the ball not carry as well.

That's why I appreciated them being forced to open it last year in the WS.  I just think if they'd made them open it a in our series it would have helped as well.

Maybe some of J-Rods long fly outs would have carried a little bit further ...

Berkmans name should never be mentioned as a possiable MVP simply because of where he plays. Can you imagine what Albert would do if he played 81 games a year in that Little League park? Probably be something like

.450 Average
90 Home Runs
300 RBI's

Albert deffinatly would have hit 4 home runs yesterday if the game was in Houston.

Time to keep an eye on L.A....
and start rooting against Philly.  For weeks I thought that there's no way we'd end up playing the Mets in the NLDS.  But if L.A. overtakes us and Philly wins the wildcard, we're New York bound, and that could mean an early, early exit in these playoffs.  I'd always rather face the better team late, and hope that the vagarities of baseball knock them off before we have to face them.

by tinstl on Sep 4, 2006 4:44 PM EDT reply actions

that if we face the mets, I'd rather have a chance at all four of their postseason starters, rather than have to go at least 2 out of 4 against Glavine and Pedro pitching twice

Marlins attendance
Completely off-topic, but they have a pic at Yahoo sports of the stands during today's D-Backs/Marlins game in Florida. Holiday afternoon, feel-good-story team in the middle of the WC race (they won today), and there are fewer people there in the fifth inning than show up to batting practice in St. Louis (stated attendance was 12,000, but unless they're all sitting in the upper deck behind the camera in this pic, there was no where near that many at the game). Kind of sad, considering what that team has done since the end of May.

Belated post. Recently returned from today's game.

Anyone else think J-Rod was dogging it out there today? Both he and Wilson loafed in getting to Logan's single-turned into a double in the first. And he was nowhere in the picture on Soriano's pop-up that Pujols dropped.

by iron duke75 on Sep 4, 2006 6:23 PM EDT reply actions

Wow
Joe Morgan just made the most hilarious argument I've seen in awhile.  His logic is staggering...paraphrased:

"It's the Most Valuable Player award.  I believe Pujols is the best player in the NL, but it's about value.  Now if you took Ryan Howard away from the Phillies, they'd be out of the wild card race.  At the same time if you took Pujols off the Cardinals they wouldn't be in the lead for the division.  But if you put the Cardinals in the NL East they'd still be behind the Mets, so that's why I'd give the MVP to Howard."

Whaaat?

I saw where it was tied 4-4
It's on locally here and i just now turned it on (was watching the Mets-Braves game).

I was like "Great, it's tied" then my reaction turned to "Oh, crap" when I saw who tied it and how...

Griffey injured..
I wasn't watching the game, but apparently he got his cleat stuck in the wall trying to rob Barrys homer. Knee injured.

Jerry Narron is definitely worse than TLR as a Mgr
Either that or Aaron Harang is as mentally handicapped as he looks. (Anyone else see that?)
There is no way you pitch to Bonds with a 2 run lead and a man on and 2 outs in the 8th inning.
On top of it, the Reds lose Griffey who looked like he twisted his right knee pretty good trying to climb the wall.  He had to come out of the game.

I've always liked Jr.
but I'm not surprised.  Seems like he finds his way to the DL every year the way the swallows find their way back to Capistrano.

Hey, a question and I think asking you folks
will make this quicker than me looking it up in my Cardinal history book.
Which of the Alou brothers played for StL?  I think it was Matty but then Jesus keeps cropping into my mind.

Update, Jr. has a dislocated toe in that injury.  Probably not as bad as it looked.

check mlb.com
and go to player search and then historical stats

Thanks and it was Matty Alou
1971-1973 but the odd thin was that he went to the A's in '72 and came back to finish the season and then went to the Yankees in '73 and came back to finish that season as a Cardianl also.

Effing Farney
The Griffey injury saved a hit since Freel moved to center.

Anyone else think that
Russ Springer and Chad Qualls of the Astros and david Weathers of the Reds may all be the same guy?  Hell, you could also possibly throw Josh Hancock in there.

Good God! I'm obviously talking to Myself now but I just like to see each day go by where there is no ground gained.... AND THERE IT IS!!!! MN is 20-Reds and 21 Astros and they both lost late to give us a gift.

Reds lose the game, but...
... get some good news on Griffey.

X-rays were negative, but he does have a dislocated toe.  He's day-to-day.  I'm sure he'll miss a game or two, but it doesn't sound like he'll miss an extended stretch.

Yeah, if you look up a few posts you'll see
I already said that.  Hey, I understand people on this blog going away but I stuck in here today with the 2 games that are in our rearview and we LOST NO GROUND.  Could be important before it's over.  My big question right now is that I wonder how bad Roger Clemens groin injury is going to be.

Julian Tavarez
turned in 6.1 IP w/ only 2 ER in his start vs. the White Sox today.  Hell, two of our starters couldn't do that and Julian's a flippin reliever.  Of course, his arm may fall off from the 91 pitches since I don't think there was any work up to strengthen his arm for the start.  He just went and threw 91 pitches...

w/o punching any dugout phones too.

Acquire Jason Schmidt!

Tavarez
could throw 200 pitches and he could still come out of the 'pen the next day.  When you look up "rubber-arm" in the dictionary, you see a picture of Julian.

The Howard for MVP campaign has already started
on ESPN and ESPNews.  They made special note of the fact that Philly fans were chanting MVP when he hit his HR today.

by Hardcore Legend on Sep 5, 2006 1:20 AM EDT reply actions

and it won't stop until
the Phillies miss the playoffs, or Albert catches him in hrs. Which a week ago looked impossible, but nothing would surprise me from Albert. Especially if he is locked in like the first of the year. He could make up ten in a month on anyone.......don't think he will, but I think he can.....

Pujols's HR
455 feet and travelled 119mph out according to hit tracker. longest hr of the season at rfk.
