question?
Did anyone happen to catch what the interactive 5th inning question was?

by Darko13 on Sep 3, 2006 3:56 PM EDT reply actions

Snell
Duncan went 2 for 3, Yadi was 2 for 2, Rolen 3 walks in 3 ABs, and we all know about Albert's day.

Everyone else pulled an ofer and he K'd 7.  I wonder what Snell takes away from that.  Talk about your mixed messages.

same thing...
...Weaver took away from his outing against Carlos Delgado. This guy owns you!!!! Against the rest you are pretty good!

by RB @ Viva El Birdos on Sep 3, 2006 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

This is such a good game today
Reyes is K-ing them left and right.
Rolen is simply amazing at 3rd base.

And of course pujols is crushing the ball. (Did anyone notice who was on base in front of Pujols for 2 of those HRs...Duncan should never bat anywhere but 2nd in the lineup.)

Acquire Jason Schmidt!

damn
just damn....this is what the Cardinals should look like against the fucking Pirates....

Just logged on, forgot it was a day game....Reyes is obviously making his case to pitch in the postseason....and Albert's making his case for President.

unless Cardinal Nation gets a movement going to amend the Constitution, that is.

He's more of a machine than The Governator and he's more popular. Plus, he qualifies legally, I think (same rules as California, right?).

A player hitting 4 HRs in one game has only happened 15 times in MLB history.  Compare that to the fact that there have been 17 perfect games pitched.

Webb allowed five ER and took the loss today. He's now 14-6 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. (Compared to Carp's 13-6, 2.87, 1.01)

by BTown Birds fan on Sep 3, 2006 5:25 PM EDT reply actions

Carp should win it
Carp should have had some extra wins if the games weren't blown or he had pitched another inning

by cardsfan84 on Sep 3, 2006 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

San Diego wins it
Hatteberg, hitting for Brandon Phillips, takes a called strike.  Pitch 2 is in there for a ball.  And there's a base it.  Hopper is pinch-running for Hatteberg.

Junior, hitting for Denorfia, is 2-8 with a K against Hoffman.  Ball 1.  Ball 2.  Called strike on the outside corner.  Ball 3.  Called strike on the corner, and the count is full.  Grounded to first and the Padres win it.  Hoffman gets his 36th save.  The Reds go 2-8 on their road trip!

Id love to see him just turn it on and Im willing to wate until the last two weeks b4 playoffs. With the good pitching of Late if AP starts and April like tear...look out.

6.12 1.64 .309
7.36 1.55 .299
4.84 1.61 .329
3.02 1.21 .259
5.42 1.39 .271
5.15 1.44 .280

ERA, WHIP, and BAA of the next 7 starters we face, and Webb has been so-so lately. I think we'll score 40 runs on the trip and win at least 3 games.

by truemun12 on Sep 3, 2006 9:54 PM EDT reply actions

This reply is very late after your post
but if you do happen to read it, I thought Reyes looked really strong and yes he was using the fastball often and to his advantage.  It was also setting up that nasty changeup of his in a good way. He had nine Ks in his 6 and 1/3rd.  And i think only one walk. Very good things today to make a Bird fan feel confident in the Flat Bill Kid.

I watched highlights and saw albert do a flip on #3 but a fast run on the other two. and I wondered. Oh no here we go again, the guy tossed his bat like earlier this year, how long before they rip him apart...

to my surprise not one post that i saw on here...wow

by punchinjudy on Sep 4, 2006 12:14 AM EDT reply actions

It was less a flip
and more of a toss... nothing at all like the attitude flip we saw earlier in the season (when Scotty told him to knock it off, he wasn't that kind of a ball player)
I'm going to my happy place now.

by gdm426 on Sep 4, 2006 4:25 AM EDT reply actions

I'm not buying it
I think Reyes took one piece of advice and that was for him to use the fastball and he absolutely did that... But it definitely wasn't down in the zone.  It was up and the Bucs simply couldn't catch up to it.  Classic power pitching.
Duncan Sr. can spin it anyway he wants but I think Reyes just went out there and pitched his own game and that game is fastballs up leading to the changeup.
Broglio for Brock!!!

by allenbrent on Sep 4, 2006 5:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree
You can't tell me that the Reyes vs. the White Sox and the Reyes for his last several starts before being demoted were both pitching the 'Dave Duncan' philosophy. I love you Dave spins the homeruns allowed as 'proving' the high fastball theory wrong, given that those homeruns were allowed when Reyes wasn't pitching to his strengths. Yes, the high fastball WILL get hit, hard, by the best of them, but if you can keep people OFF the bases, those HRs are solo shots.

by SirVLCIV on Sep 4, 2006 7:38 AM EDT reply actions

I saw plenty
of anthony's fastballs down in the zone yesterday. not 2-seamers, just well placed low and away and low and inside fastballs
