Country songs for the Season
OK so this last couple weeks I have had this folk song by Townes Van Zandt called "No Deal" going through my head. The first verse goes something like this:
Now this man down at the used car lot,
tried to sell me four wheels and a trunk.
I said, "Man, there is no engine!"
He said, "The engine's just a bunch of junk.
Besides you don't need no engine to go downhill
and as I can plainly see, that's the direction you're headed in."
And he handed me the keyes.
Yup that is kinda how I am feeling right now. I know we did Uncle Tupelo/Wilco/Son Volt songs in one of the threads. But if anyone has any country lyrics they want to share, this might be an appopriate time.

Change Jackson to Oakland....
I'm rooting for Oakland,
gonna mess around.
Yeah, I'm rooting for Oakland...
Goodbye beeeerr town.....
How about Emmylou Harris
---
And every time is the last time
And every time is the first
Everytime is the last time with you
Oh it never gets no better
And it couldn't get no worse
or "Tragedy"
---
I drew the best hand you'd ever hold
Then cashed my winnings in long ago
Settled for silver how could I know
You were waiting with the gold...
That's how the story goes
Our chapter's coming to a close
We are history
But I will always think of you
Every day until my days are through
You made me believe
In tragedy
(OK, that second one's a little overdramatic and negative....)

And here's a special one for the owners
Who keeps on trusting you
When you've been cheating
And spending your nights on the town
And who keeps on saying that he still wants you
When you're through running around
And who keeps on loving you
When you've been lying
Saying things ain't what they seem
God does
But I don't
God will
But I won't
And that's the difference
Between God and me
So who says he'll forgive you
And says that he'll miss you
And dream of your sweet memory
God does
But I don't
God will
But I won't
And that's the difference
Between God and me

how about lucinda williams
told you baby one more time
don't make me sit all alone and cry
well it's over
i know it but i can't let go
you don't like to see me standing around
feel like i been shot but didn't fall down
well it's over
i know it but i can't let go . . . .
Lucinda...
She did a fifteen minute version of Joy that bordered on music perfection. Killer four guitars with Lucinda taking the song from resolve, to dispair, to insecurity, to anger, to resolve. It was like a 12 step heartbreak recovery program.
Gotta be one....
This is an easy one...
Deep dark depression, excessive misery
If it weren't for bad luck
I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair and agony on me"
