Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

September Call Ups

I did a quick scan of MLB.com and stltoday.com and couldn't find any info on guys the Cards have called up since rosters can expand to 40 in Semptember.  Here are some guys that I think the Cardinals should consider bringing up to give veterans some rest and/or get them some playing time (we do have a 5 game lead now which means we can probably afford to let some guys get their feet wet).  Mike? Rose a catcher at Memphis has already been called up to replace Mudler's roster spot and Anthony Reyes will fill his spot in the rotation.  Here are some other I think should get a call up:
Pitchers
Chris Narveson (lefty in the 'pen)
Josh Kinney (middle relief)
Brad Thompson (middle relief)
John Webb (spot start maybe)

Hitters
Skip Schumaker (backup OF)
Amaury Marti (backup OF/strongman)
Brendan Ryan or John Nelson (backup SS)
Junior Spivey (backup IF)

There are probably a few others I missed so post them if you want to or any news on guys we actually called up.

jrod will be up

narveson--maybe.  probably not.  i am curious but dont see any opportunities for him.
kinney--i think he should get called up
thompson--definitely will get called up
webb--dont think he will get called up

schu-whenever the olypic thing ends
marti-no, hasnt shown enough yet
ryan,nelson,hart--one of them will get called up
spivey--no.  why reward him for batting .200.  no at bats for him anyway.

spivey and a mystery man
No chance on Spivey -- TLR made a comment the other day making that clear. Also, he apparently has an injured hand and hasn't been playing.

Also, LaRussa hinted that someone not on the 40-man roster might get called up.

Even at his
age, I'd rather see him on the mound than Marquis.

Reminds me of
the great quote from Ty Cobb.

In the late sixties, someone asked Ty what he would hit in this era of the pitcher. He answered about .300. The reporter was incredulous; "Why is that?"

Ty said, "You've got to remember - I'm seventy-three."

And
then he kicked him in the face.

Schumaker
I'm looking forward to seeing him again.  He wasnt too impressive early on in the year but he's put together a great season at AAA.  No doubt in my mind that he is our future CF when Edmonds is gone.

schu
i think schu is our future taguchi.  i dont think he will carry a big enough stick to be a regular.  looks to me like a defensive sub.

Anthony Reyes

Reyes starts Sunday as you know...

I am told there could be additional call-ups after Memphis finishes its season.... maybe Kinney and or Falkenborg.... maybe a third catcher (Hernandez), depending on Bennett's health .... maybe a middle INF -- hopefully Brendan Ryan (or Nelson)... please say no to Bo Hart.

They already...
called a third catcher -- Mike Rose.

Reyes
Speaking of Reyes, does anyone know what happened to Al Reyes? He just happened to be one the best bullpenners we had two years ago.

Rehabbing right now.

Andy Cavazos
He is another guy I forgot to mention.  His numbers at AAA are better than Falkenborg's and he could be a decent middle relief guy for us as well.

narveson
i think he really deserves a call-up. he's made a great comeback and re-established himself as one of our best pitching prospects. plus, he's a lefty, and it couldn't hurt us to have another one of those in the 'pen. you never know, if they call him up and he impresses he could be find himself in the mix for a rotation spot next season.
