Quad Cities

My wife and son and I are thinking about heading up to Davenport on Sunday to see Mulder assuming that the start goes forward.  We were going to be in Chicago for the weekend, and figured a detour on our way back to St. Louis might be a fun outing.

I wanted to see if anyone reading here had been to Quad Cities before and had any advice about local things to see, hotels to stay at, pecularities to look for at the park, etc.

Davenport
I actually clerked for the Iowa state senator who represents Davenport, one of the four Quad Cities. However, I've only been to one Swing game since it is three hours away from me. In the Quad Cities, they just re-opened the news remodeled Figge Art Museum, which is neat. The Putnam Museum is okay and it has an IMAX theatre. If you like to gamble, there's a riverboat on the Missippi. (I know you have kids, but some people take them to riverboats.)

The stadium is neat. It was originally built in the 1930's, I believe, and a couple of years ago they completed over $10M dollars worth of renovations, which were designed by the same firm that did Busch III. It's right on the river and is a neat location. Having a family, you might enjoy sitting on the grass hill that is beyond right field (there's a net wall that you can see right through). You can bring a blanket and sit out there (though I've never done so).

There is an informational page on the webiste:

I'm sure that you could call and get better info. on hotels and seating and the like. Get your tickets in a hurry, though, because Mulder coming to town will generate interest.

Forgive me
It occured to me that I should provide you with links to the Figge and Putnam Museums.

(Also, glancing over my last post. The spelling and type-o's are awful.)

Davenport
I grew up in the Quad Cities and there is plenty to do.  The new ballpark is fantastic and is really a good family atmosphere.

As for hotels, there is a Radisson that is right down the road from JOD stadium.  The stadium is located right on the river and right off of the Centennial Bridge.  The Radisson is right down 2nd Street closer to the Arsenal Bridge.  In between the two bridges is the heart of downtown Davenport with the Figge musuem and some good restaurants and brew pubs.

Depending on your kids' ages, the John Deere center in downtown Moline is fantastic - tons of tractors to climb on and a very informative and interesting history of the company.  It's probably good for 1 - 2 hours of fun.  Also lots of restaurants and brew pubs down near the JD center.

Have a great time...

Davenport
is about an hour from where i live. They do have a Fuddruckers, that's the main attraction IMO. :) Other then that, I haven't been there long enough to really check it out. I think they have a nice park by the river and you can rent bikes...
