World Series Petition

Hola Viva El Birdos community. My diary today features a worthless opinion with no real facts of any kind to back it up.  I just wanted to publicly say, in the presence of my fellow fans, that I think the St. Louis Cardinals will win the World Series this year.

The season has been rocky to say the least. The team is flawed, sluggish and inconsistent, and yet when they're hot, they're REALLY hot. This isn't 2004 or 2005. I'm not so sure this isn't 2003 to be honest, but here we are, with a month to go, doing our best to hold onto first place and regroup for the home stretch. I think that the very thing that has been so frustrating as a fan this season is the same thing that will help us win a World Series ring this October: the team's unpredictability. Anything can happen, including a playoff run and a win against the dominant American League.

I'm 23 years old and have never seen the Cardinals win a world series. I'm not too knowledgeable about odds or statistics, but as a sign of good faith I'm writing this diary to show that I have faith in my team, through the good and the bad. If you, too, believe that this team has a chance to win the series, sign below. You're also welcome to call this crazy or stupid or whatever, but maybe a little faith will go farther than a lot of expectations. Besides, what's the worst that could happen?

I think the Cardinals will win it all this year. Who's with me?

I Agree
Maybe this team needs to be in a dogfight to keep it sharp for October. I think this team, while obviously not as talented as the last two years, might just have the moxy to make it all the way this year.

I do
I'm actually more confident in this year than the past two. I think our team does better when they're not expected to perform. In 2004 they were supposed to get 3rd place in the central, and look where they made it. No one's expecting them to win, and the AL love themselves. I like our odds from a "gut" approach.

for the record
Right now I don't believe that we absolutely, positively will win the World Series, but I'll certainly admit the possibility.  It's true, when this team gets hot, they are hot - it just so happens when they're cold, they're freezing.  But if we're hot going into October, it'll be tough for Satan himself to take us down.

Get Into the playoffs...
then it's a crapshoot.  Who gets hot?  Who gets hurt?  Can the Cards go into October with a healthy roster for the first time in eons?  Pennant race baseball is fun... lessee wha' hoppens!

I'm with you
but then again, I posted this last year.  There's no point in worrying anymore.  The 2006 Cards are what they are, and they'll either win or they'll lose.  It's not any fun if you give up.

head vs heart
my head tells me this team is gonna fall short --- not enough pitching. but even we skeptics will be watching ev'y pitch and rooting for them, win or lose.

in my opinion, being a fan isn't about believing in the team 100 percent; it's about simply being with the team 100 percent, win or lose.

it's about caring.

nobody who spends their time on this blog seems to be deficient in that regard.

Count me in
We need to get healthy, and in a sick way, I think the battles of this year might make this team a little more battle tested. It might also solve whatever problems exist in the clubhouse.

i just have to agree...
the cards weren't thinking 'oh its been 20 years' in 2004 & 2005...they were thinking something to the like 'yup, lets add yet another WS trophie to our case'  ....

BUT this year, all it's been about is 'we almost had it in 2004, we should've had it in 2005, and hell, we should've had at least one in the past 24 years!!'  -thems are fightn' words, not 'we deserve it' words.  and a winning spirit is just what we need...we hunger!

GO CARDS!

A little head and a little heart...
....In any postseason series, Carp is going to get to pitch atleast once (probably twice) if he is healthy.  The Cardinals have been managing his pitch count as to keep him sharp for the post season.  As long as we have a healthy Carp in the order, we at the very least aren't going to get swept in a series.  Can some other pitcher, any other starting pitcher get us a quality start and fight for a win?  Sure.  Jeff Suppan would be my likely candidate.  He slows the game down and in a high-pressure atmosphere like the postseason I don't doubt that he could win us a game or two.

As far as offense, as long as we have El Hombre, we've got a shot.  Sprinkle in a lil' Dunc and who knows.  A three run lead can go a long way in a Chris Carpenter start.

As bad as we've been this year, even in the darkest times, I still thought we've got the horses to win the World Series.  Series like the Reds of the past month show me that maybe my faith is rewarded.  When in need to win situations (aren't they all that way now?) The Cardinals were still more than competitive and didn't lose a series.

I'm in.
