Mulder 8/11 Rehab Start in Memphis

He pretty much sucked.  No command.

His stuff looked ok, but he couldn't throw his fastball by anybody and if they know an 80's fastball is coming, they'll eventually start launching it.  Seemed like he was throwing a little harder than he had been earlier in the year, but still not enough to actually get it by someone sitting on fastball.

I'll have a deeper, almost pitch-by-pitch breakdown later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

I concur
I went to the game tonite and the first inning he looked like vintage mulder with the exception for the walk to their third hitter. The second inning he started to lose his command as he walked the second batter but still got out of the inning. The second inning is when he started to leave the ball up as his last two outs of the inning where fly ball outs. The third was not a good inning for him, granted there was a passed ball that molina would have blocked but he had a chance to get out of the inning but was not able to finish them off. After the homer the next guy doubled and dyar miller visited him on the mound after that he got a ground ball out. His next inning was tolerable as he got 2 flyouts and walked one. It wasnt his greateset performance considering he was facing triple a players but maybe thats due to rust. His velocity did seem to be there though, the Memphis gun said 83 to 86 but the gun said earlier in the year that reyes was at 87 and 88. So mulder was probably within the 86 to 90 range which was encouraging. I think it would be best if he had one more rehab start in memphis to work off rust or whatever but even after tonite i think i would rather have mulder taking the ball every fifth day over marquis.

Agree
He needs another rehab start.

That double was a fun display of ballpark oddity.  If it's 5 feet right it's in the bullpen, if it's 5 feet left it's on the walkway in front of the Bluff.

My pitch by pitch is going to be tomorrow...but I'll give a quick synopsis -- it was about 80% fastballs from what I could tell, and he only got a first-pitch strike on nine of 20 batters.

They didn't do much with his curveball, he just never used it.

Hmmm....
so Mulder didn't exactly impress in his second rehab start.   What to we do now?  Give him another rehab start?  Bring him back to start against the Reds?

I'd say give him another rehab start.  I don't want him pitching here until he is completely ready.  Eventhough he might be better than Marquis either way.

I'm Scared
His fastball never broke 90 Mphs.  He did look sharp in the first two innings but again the long ball reared his ugly head again. overall: not great.

Two things
  1. His fastball has never broken 90 in a Cardinals uniform.
  2. The AutoZone Park radar gun is a worthless piece of crap.  If you're going by it, there was the one random 94-mph fastball that was probably really more like 87-88.  Trust me, I'm down there just about every night...

You could see this coming...
a mile away... His arm is screwed and has been for longer than they're admitting... The idea he'll neutralize Delgado in October is absurd...

He can't even handle Dominguez or MacGhee for Christ's sakes!!

Here's the more detailed post.
First off -- I can't guarantee that I'm 100% accurate on these, but I think I'm pretty close.  There were some pitches I couldn't really see.  Anything marked fastball/slider or fastball/sinker could probably be any of the three, I don't know Mulder's exact repertoire.
