Ponson a Yankee
Ponson has already signed with the Yankees, that didn't take long. I only just read that we had not found a taker for him and were going to release him. I tell my roommate this news and he points me toward this article, already verifying the extreme short-livedness of his free agency.

I hate having to write subjects
He can get mad all he wants at being kicked out of the rotation or released, but the Cards gave him a GREAT opportunity. They gave an alcoholic a guaranteed million dollars with incentives to pitch for a ocntending team so shortly after Booze and jail problems not to mention Piss poor pitching for years.
If Ponson really understands what his life has become he'll still kneel by his bed every night and thank St. Louis for taking a chance.

Who will pay
But what of the incentives? If Ponson meets the contract conditions and makes enough appearances, are those the responsibility of the Yankees? It would stand to reason that the team picking up the released player would assume the obligation of picking up the incentive obligations, but if they don't have to assume the other terms of the contract (that is, the remaining base salary, or what amounts to approximately $375,000.00 for the remainder of the season) I could also see the rules requiring St. Louis to pay the incentives. Does anyone know anything about this?
