All-Star Balloting Results

Looking at the latest All-Star Balloting results, El Hombre's way out in front at least 300,000 votes over ANY other player in EITHER league.  But what I'm still wondering is how 220,484 people think Carlos Delgado is a better first baseman with his whopping .257 BA?

Eck and Rolen are also in the lead.  Get voting people!

I refuse...
to vote for someone just because they are Cardinal.  In my book, they have to deserve that ballot.  That said, I filled out one this weekend and put Albert at 1st, Vidro at second, Eck at SS and Ensberg at 3rd.

eck
that being said, how could you vote for eck over renteria?  don't get me wrong, when I vote Im certainly voting for eckstein, I like the guy a lot.  I'd always vote for players I like over players who deserve it, almost everyone does.  But renteria has been better this year, not by much, but still better.

I think I went with Renteria
and I was just thinking earlier today that I should have gone with Eckstein. While Renteria's stats may be slightly better, I had to ask myself which one I would rather have in a Cardinals uniform and Eckstein was the clear choice for me because of the way he hustles and all of the little things that he does which marginalizes Renteria's slight advantage for me. I'd always hoped that Renteria would retire in St. Louis, but I'm glad he chose not to now.

Other than Eckstein, I went with the same picks that Brock20 did, but my next ballot will include Eckstein.

It was close...
I broke the tie along the lines that Eck leads the NL in hits.  I'm glad that Edgar is getting a new life in Atlanta and have always been a big Edgar fan, I went with Eck.  There are always positions that are close calls.

Well then, who did you
vote for last year at 1B?  It seems to me Derrick Lee was having a better year than Pujols at this time last year.

I said that I refuse...
"to vote for someone JUST because they are Cardinal."

Blithering allegiance to a team just bugs the crap out of me.  Fortunately, we don't have a lot of that around these parts.  There is NO reason on earth that Scott Rolen or Jim Edmonds should be in the starting line up of the all-star game.  If we want to call it fan appreciation night or something along those lines, then that's fine, let the audience decide EVERY player on the team.  Say the top two get in at each position, six in the outfield and then the wildcards are the top vote getters who do not fit that category.  Why are pitchers not voted on?  Let's vote for them.

And you know what, I did vote for Derek Lee because at the break, he deserved it more then Pujols.

rolen
NO reason on earth rolen should be on the starting lineup.  I'd say thats going a little overboard.  His OPS is only slightly lower (by like 50-75 points I think) than endsberg, despite the fact endsberg plays in Minute Maid.  Also, Rolen is the best fielding 3rd baseman in the game.  So I'd say one could make a pretty decent argument for Rolen.

Id say
its easier to make an arguement for Rolen as a starter than EckO as a starter.

two points
(1) David Wright, not Ensberg, is the guy who has the best argument to be there over Rolen.  I agree Ensberg is Mr. Minute Maid.

(2) While I'd be glad for Rolen to be honored by the fans, at the end of the day, I'd rather have him spend the All Star Break at home, gorging himself on steaks and corn on the cob or whatever else he likes to eat, so he can get the rest of his strength back and hit some HRs in the second half.

Id say
you could make a case for Rolen, Endsberg, Wright, or Cabrera.

Thanks...
Cabrerra was a miscue on my part.  He's a damn fine hitter but his defense this year has been suspect.  That clouded my decision there.  I had it down between Wright and Ensberg and went with Morgan.  Not to be confused with kissing bandit of the same name.

While you're voting for the NL players you'd like, you can vote for AL players as well.  Perhaps there are some AL fans who would like to not see Pujols starting at 1B.  Personally, I'm spending most of my AL votes on the Royals - but Reggie & Grudz are just because I still like them.
