Cardinals by the Bay

Great game last night.  Got to see Pujols hit a shot in the first and almost take another one out later in the game.  Anywhere else and that's a HR.

Juan had one good hit, made to look all the better by Barry "Statue" Bonds.  Bonds is so abysmal in the field now, he is cheating on balls to try to get a jump.  He took two steps in on Jenc's line drive and couldn't recover.  He made good contact a couple of times, but the shift robbed him.  Good.

The Giants line up and defense is just not major league caliber.  Although Finley looks good - a triple and a great catch (he's playing two positions - CF and LF as Barry lets the grass grow around his feet).  And all while he's moving past 40.  That's because he's fueled with Saluki Power.

Count the number of Giants starters under 30 years old.  Trick question - there aren't any!  (At least I think that is true).

Pujols looked good at first last night, scooping a couple of plays.  I was sitting with a friend of mine who is a Mets fans and might as well be the head of the Carlos Delgado fan club.  I made sure to point out every good defensive play Pujols made.

Jenc's second hit was terrible.  A seeing eye grounder through the middle.  That came right after Edmonds dribbler that started foul and wound up fair.  Edmonds was lucky on that one - he didn't start out of the box for few seconds.

Marquis' curve looked good at times, and he had some smooth innings, but he drives me crazy.  He's destined for a bad 1st inning, and then at least one more trouble spot each game.

The weather cooperated last night and the crowd was mellow.  Got to meet my esteemed VEB collegue lb3000 last night, so it was an occassion when VEB worlds collide.

Left after the 8th, so as to avoid any Izzy inspired heartburn.  Hey, I have to be at work at market hours at 5:30 every morning, so leaving at 9:30 is late for me.

Taking the wife and kids (3 and 2) to the game today - and wearing the official VEB t-shirt.  Will probably not post another diary tomorrow as I fear my kids won't last more than 6 innings.  And half that will be walking around trying to entertain them.

But they are well rehearsed for their "Let's Go Cardinals" and "Albert Pujols, clap clap clapclapclap" chants.  Indoctrinate them while they are young.

Certainly a good time
and Albert started it off right.

It was lots of fun to see Miles playing short fielder (or whatever that softball position is) on the shift against Bonds.  Much as Marquis has been frustrating this year, he seemed to go after Bonds and he got the job done.  He also hit a foul ball over the wall in right field during his first or second at bat.  The Giants fans sitting around me were incredulous.

Juan had a good game by his standards.  In addition to the hits, he made a pretty incredible throw on the fly or on one hop to Marquis to hold a runner at third.

The Giants' lineup has a lot of weak spots.  How many major league teams play a first sacker who not only hits below the Mendoza line but makes two errors on fairly rountine plays??  Wow.

Thanks to BozCardsFanSF for stopping by.  It was great to meet a fellow VEBer.

I was almost going to sneak out of the office to go to the game today, but since Carp isn't pitching I think I will content myself with listening on line.
