A LOT of players mashing this Spring

Including Albert.

My theory: the World Baseball Classic. Anyone up for doing a quick analysis of players who A) Played in the WBC and B) Didn't, with their April, 2006 vs. their past Aprils? I'd do it, but finals start this week.

I'm just guessing a quick analysis would do the trick, but who knows: I know several Yankees who went have been mauling the ball (Derek Jeter is just going to miss .400 for April).

Vernon Wells,
Is another prime example. Harold Reynolds discussed this a couple weeks back saying he really thinks it helped the hitters and hurt the pitchers, with the exception being the hitters who didn't get to play that much aka Juan Encarnacion and Jeff Francouer.

It makes alot of sense to me.

makes sense
Of course, that theory also begs the question:  how long will they be able to keep that level of intensity?  I'd rather see pujols hit 14 home runs in October than April.

Agreed entirely
I have a feeling we'll see a lot of bizarre slumps.

another thought
I think we'll see some major second-half slumps from prime time players, especially aging players. Possibly due to the WBC, but mainly bc of the banned use of the greenies.

Time will tell.
