Whiners?
The next time a Chicago fan feels he/she/it needs to come here and whine to you that you "have no class" because you wrote an unkind comment about their Beloved Boobie-Bears, make sure you link the hypocrite to this:
http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/story/2006/4/13/22040/5776
Don't forget to ask if he/she/it unloaded the same yap on their own far-more-"classy" fans.

And so, Cardinals fans...
Sure sounded like making excuses and whining to me.
Hey, if you make two errors, just say "I screwed up," and leave it at that.
Blaming the pattern in the grass -- that's pretty ridiculous, isn't it?

The problem with your analysis, Al
In this morning's Post-Dispatch, Edmonds was quoted as follows: "I definitely tried to do too much to save a run there," he said. "And I probably ended up costing us another run. It cost us the game. ... If I don't make two errors, we don't lose the game."
Regarding the absence of a crack off the bat, that was said by him Wednesday night in response to a reporter's question asking why he hadn't caught Fielder's flyball to dead center. Edmonds noted that he had gotten a bad jump on the ball and pointed out that he's going to need to make an adjustment because there isn't a loud crack off the bat in this park like there was in the old one.
Finally, the pattern in which the grass is cut and rolled will obviously affect how it skips, wouldn't you agree?
Your conclusion that he was whining and that the Cardinals are self-destructing reeks of hope on your part.
Your old friend,
Lance

Hey Lance...
Anyway, I didn't hear the rest of Edmonds' comments as you quote them here -- that makes him look quite a bit better. All I saw was the Yahoo game recap, from where I took those quotes.
I have NEVER heard ANYONE say that the "pattern in the grass" affecting the way the ball "skips" before. That just struck me odd.

actually, BCB ...
There was this quote much higher up in the story:
"I don't know what to say," Edmonds said. "It cost us the game, so I've got to deal with it."
And you omitted the two sentences after the line about the pattern in the grass:
On Thursday he said the decorative pattern cut into the grass can make balls behave erratically. Mostly, Edmonds said he was trying to compensate for a .176 average.
"Obviously, I'm not hitting the way I want," Edmonds said. "So, I was trying to make it up for it on defense."
Even the story you say you read makes it quite clear Edmonds was blaming himself.
I'm not familiar with your site. Do you always quote things so far out of context?

A game of telephone
I saw Edmonds' locker-stall talks with the gaggle of reporters on both post-game shows. He was far from "complaining" about not hearing the crack of the bat as well as his subsequent ability to interpret the balls' flight paths. Reporters have queried him repeatedly each night about what differences and adjustments there are in the new park. Rather than saying "nothing," he got into a (quite engaging, actually) discussion in which he mentioned adjusting to the different sounds, not having the sound reverberate off the previously enclosed stadium, etc. It was interesting trade talk from one of the best at his craft.
Yet this reporter says he "complained"--poor word choice, in my opinion--Wedneday, then in the same context mentions the Thursday comment about the grass pattern, and suddenly it looks like he's citing other factors for his errors. Then a blog commentor takes it one step further says he's "blamed everything but himself."
And with that, in two short steps, an interesting conversation is turned into an excuse and a reason to defame another human being, like some silly game of telephone or salon gossip. Sad.
This part of sports--and Internet/blog ranting--really turns me off.

Yes we do, in fact...
He's even been a little more "Don't worry, I'm not gonna do what everybody thinks I'm gonna do and just FLIP OUT MAN!!!" than usual. His 4.83 ERA, 12 walks 15 Hits, and 4 HR through 16.2 IP this year is hinting that Zambby may have gone loco. Has he made it thru the 6th inning yet this year? One thing he can't blame it on is lack of run support. It's hard to imagine that he's got two no decisions and a loss through his first three outings.
If the "Baby-Bull" can't live up to his potential, the Cubbies are in for yet another very long year.
-Oh yeah, and I read all the jive they talk up there at BCB. It seems to me that they have roughly three main complaints against the Cardinals. They are listed as follows, along with their reasoning behind their complaints:
1. "I hate Jim Edmonds...really, I hate him".
Reasoning:
A)He purposly makes incredible plays and fantastic catches. They say he dives whenever he gets the chance, ie. Sammy Sosa (A regular Greg Luganis)
B)He is "Brokeback-ish". To that I say, If Jim Edmonds is gay, I don't wanna be straight. Jimmy's third child, and first baby-boy was born during Spring Training. He must really be dedicated to the lie.
2. They complain we've been spoiled by good fortune, something the lifer cubbies fan has not had for many a year.
Reasoning: We're "evil" and somehow avoid self-destruction when injuries arise. References were made to deals with the devil.
3. They secretly wish that their team played the way the Cardinals do. All the Edmonds attack's stem from his abilities in the field and at the plate. They respect Rolen and Pujols, but hate Eckstein because he's too small. As if Juan Pierre is some sort of giant. My friends and I call him "Trick or Treat". He looks like he's an 8 year old wearing a Cubs Halloween costume.
