The New Busch

There are a few things about the new Busch that I find interesting.  The first is that it seems awfully quiet compared to the old stadium.  Granted I am watching the games on TV, but it seems eerily silent for a Cardinal game.  Is this a result of the new higher priced harder to get seats going to less ravenous white collar fans?

The other interesting piece of info is in regards to whether or not the new Busch is a hitter's park or a pitcher's park.  The new MLB 2K6 baseball game came out for X-Box 360 Tuesday and it DOES have the new stadium in the game.  In the game each stadium around the bigs is either listed as a hitter's park or a pitcher's park.  Within those two classes each stadium also has a rating to show how much of a pitcher or hitter's park it is.  According to the game, the new Busch is a hitter's park and unfortunately the third friendliest to hitters in the majors.  It ranks only behind Ameriquest field in Arlington,  Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, and Coors field in helping hitters out.  For added perspective it is ranked equall with Citizens Bank Park in Philly and shoebox sized Minute Maid park in Houston.  It's just a video game so you can't put too much stake in it, but I thought it was worthy of mentioning.  Only time will tell...

A couple of factors
Some of the field level seats are actually further away from the field than their old Busch equivalents, note the added foul ground in places.

Second, the tv and radio technicians are still probably tinkering with how best to pick up the crowd noise.

pop up homerun
the ball seems to carry to left field well at times, encarnacion almost had a popup homerun..rolen and albert hit ones to left as well already.

but the ball doesnt seem to carry as well to the power alleys.

the house that albert built? hehe

re. the fans
As someone who's been to two games at new Busch, I feel that the crowd is simply in "wow, this is cool" mode. Give 'em time to get used to the digs and they'll make the requisite din.

And yes, the wind was blowing hard out to left today (Saturday). Definitely helped out Albert and Hector, in my opinion.
