Forget Gonzo, Trade for Monroe

It is being reported that the Tigers are shopping Craig Monroe and are in the market for some lefty relief. I have no clue what it would take to get someone like Monroe and not even sure it'd be a good move for STL - kinda seems like Encarnacion with more emotion - but anyone who can hit 28 hr and 35 2b in DET could potentially have a bustout season in STL.

His OBP is awful

worse than Encarnacion's. I don't see this as any discernible upgrade. They look like the same player to me. Stick with Juan, imo, who can sub in center.

it is not a hatred

i just feel they could do better. the main arguement is if trading juan e allows the cardinals to get the starting pitching they should do it. i am not saying trade juan for a starting pitcher because he would not be able to bring back the quality the cardinals are looking for. but if his salary is the problem from signing free agents they should find a taker. now if gonzo does not sign then they might have no choice but to keep juan.if juan is still a cardinal i will still support him but i still believe there are better options out there. and that is all i am going to say about it.

Juan

Juan is a pretty average outfielder, but I think a lot of fans have unrealistic expectations for him. His line for 2006 was .278/.317/.443, NL average right-fielder was .268/.345/.453. It seems to me like he's got pretty good range, and is probably an above-average fielder in right.

For how much crap he gets, I think we did as good a job as could have been done signing him last offseason. Our options were all gambles, and out of them, I think only Jacque Jones and Brian Giles outperformed Enc, and in fairness Juan costs half what Giles costs.

If Juan Encarnacion was a character on The Office, he would be Stanley.
