one more plea for Carl Crawford.

On Dec 2, Daily Herald columnist Scot Gregor, wrote. "The asking price...two front line players and a pitcher prospect." He was refering to what it would take to bring Crawford to the White Sox. I am not sure how he knows that, but if that is true. Why  not try a three way deal. I know I know I am dreaming again. I know it will never happen and I am just a nut from Syracuse. I am thinking we can move any of the following; Encarnacion, Looper, Flores, Duncan, and Rincon. As far as a pitching "prospect" is concerned I would take Navi, AW and Reyes off the table, but any  of our fine young arms in the minors would be available. If Tampa is not interested in what we have to offer  then we may need to go threeway to find what they want. I guess the key here would be to move Encarnacion. Then sign Trot Nixon 2y/12m to play right. Boston did not offer him arbitration.

Eckstien
Crawford
Pujols
Rolen
Edmonds
Nixon
Kennedy
Molina

Damn, that would be on feared line up! And maybe the best defense in all of baseball.

Tampa
Wants true star potential and all of our pitchers who have that/will have that are in the majors already. Unless of course, tampa wants Ottavino.
I'm a Jenius!

WOW
It amazes me how much people want to move Juan im not the biggest Juan fan but he did hit 19 homers around .270 average and hes pretty good defensively not to mention hitting a walkoff homer against Milwaukee not his fault Carlos Lee caught it.Sure he was kind of a jerk not to go to the parade but still hes a good player and you know exactly what your getting out of him.

Now on your trade idea I like it I think trading Juan in that situation would be good while trading for Carl Crawford would be amazing  have always liked him hes a good player im sure a lot of people on this blog would like to see him in Cardinal red.
What can I say about Trot Nixon good hitter great defensively but do we know what we.re getting? will he play as well as usual after his injury?
the last one or two years we havent gotten alot of production out of our outfield hitters until Duncan showed up i think Crawford,Edmonds,Nixon would give us some really good production.

Read this very carefully.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO TRADE FOR CARL CRAWFORD

TAMPA BAY IS NOT INTERESTED IN TRADING ONE OF THE BEST YOUNG PLAYERS IN ALL OF BASEBALL FOR WHOPPING BIG PLATE OF DEEP FRIED MEMPHIS TOE JAM, NOT EVEN IF WE THROW IN POWDERED SUGAR.

AMAZING, YOUNG, PRODUCTIVE, CHEAP, PREMIUM-DEFENSE POSITION PLAYERS DO NOT GET TRADED, BECAUSE IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THE TEAM THAT CONTROLS THEM TO DO SO.  THE ONLY WAY THAT IT WOULD MAKE SENSE FOR THEM TO DO SO, IS IF THE PRICE IS SO GREAT, THAT IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THE CARDINALS TO DO SO...GET IT?

SO, TO RECAP:

THE CARDINALS ARE NOT TRADING FOR CARL CRAWFORD

THANKS.

by farley503 on Dec 3, 2006 12:08 PM EST   0 recs

addendum.
Having re-read my post I just remembered Carl Crawford is not a premium-defensive position player (left field), which is an embarassing snafu but does not alter the crux of my argument, which can be summed up neatly:

WE ARE NOT TRADING FOR CARL CRAWFORD.

Thanks.  Again.

Dude chill
you don't have to angry about it man! Just relax. I said it was a dream and a plea. The column I read said what Tampa wants for him, and if Tampa does end up moving him I hope we can get him. Geeze up dude.

we don't have the prospects to acquire
Crawford in any way shape or form.
Acquire Jason Schmidt!

not angry
The caps are not a matter of anger, it was a device for emphasis, because it is tiresome to read constantly about ludicrous trade proposals like Duncan and Rincon for Carl Crawford, etc.  This is supposed to be a forum for intelligent baseball discussion, and that is not an intelligent proposal.  I'm sorry if I'm being a dick or whatever.

Also, in response to whoever below, I would posit that it is (caps alert) FAR more likely that the Cardinals would trade for Manny Ramirez than trade the aforementioned players (promising bat and Useless Bucket O' Lefthanded Crap, respectively) for Carl Crawford.

by farley503 on Dec 3, 2006 4:30 PM EST to parent up   0 recs

Amen Again.
Crawford is not worth giving up much for. We don't need another B player. If your gonna give it up you gotta go big and trade for Manny. Now there's a trade that has balls. Go for it all. We can develop a Carl Crawford but you don't come across guys like Manny and Pujols very often and when you do more times than naught it's by accident. Go for the gold, trade for Manny.

crawdaddy
tampa bay has tons of outfielders.  they are open to trading one of them and the rumored price has long been a premium young pitcher (someone like dan haren or justin verlander).

the cards dont have much to offer, especially when you are taking wainwright and reyes off the table.  generally speaking, you arent going to trade spare parts for good young players.  most GMs arent fooled by the quantity over quality offer.  think of a young player in the cardinals organization that you least want to give up because thats basically what it is going to take.

People need to realize that if we are trading for
one of these guys (Crawford, Dontrelle, etc.), the package starts with either Reyes or Wainwright.  They are the commodities that other teams would want.

YOU SAID IT ALL...... AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMEN

How about you be quiet we can debate anything we want theres a diary about trading for manny and its more farfetched then trading for carl crawford so cut the caps out we.re not saying its gonnna happen we.re saying we want it too we can dream all we want too of course its not gonna happen

by Calhoun on Dec 3, 2006 12:56 PM EST   0 recs

Manny to the Cardinals. Yipee!!
Manny would fit the bill. If you could keep the starting line-up and plug in Manny you would have nothing more to look for from a starting eight. Everybody is good with the glove and the bat and they would complement each other in the line-up. The bull-pen would be strong but the only problem would be shoring up a decent starting rotation. You got Carpenter and Wells. If we lost Reyes or Wainwright in the trade we would still have the other. You plug in Narveson and Looper and cross your fingers that we resign Mulder. It could happen and wouldn't you want to see that ?

Actually
I think we can get him if we trade Reyes,Wainwright,Duncan for Carl Crawford but WJ would never be stupid enough to do that.

by Calhoun on Dec 3, 2006 12:58 PM EST   0 recs

actually
well, keep Wainright and add Hawksworth or Occavino. Crawford is signed through 2010. So I wouldn't be against offering them Colby Rasmus if need be. Say Reyes, Duncan, and one of the three I mentioned.

A week or so ago there was a rumored deal with the Tigers. Remember Encar and Looper for Thames and Maroth. That rumor never went anywhere, but let's use it as an example.

Say that deal happened. We could keep Maroth, and send Thames, Duncan, and Reyes to Tampa. Something like this could be done. I know I know only in dream land.

by nybirdfan on Dec 3, 2006 1:35 PM EST   0 recs

ooh sorry
Ottavino not Occavino. You all were probablely wondering who I was talking about...lol
