Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

mulder down to cards and rangers

Hopefully its his loyalty and feeling of things left undone that's getting him to come back and not the lucrative contract we might have offered him...

I'd imagine that the rangers probably offered the best contract since they have money to burn.  As long as we don't overpay him i'd like to see him come back.

then we could use narve/loop/thompson/4-man til mid-season when mulder comes back.

I like the risk
but I don't like the risk of this ending with Wainwright back in the bullpen.

I
would like to see him here on a two year, which is what he needs and deserves. I still hope to see him do well like he did in his A's days.

Wagonmaker
DanUp, do you really think this would happen?  I mean, suppose Wainwright does roughly as expected or perhaps a little better during the first half of the season -- let's call it a 4.20 ERA. Assuming Izzy is healthy, is it conceivable that TLR would at that point say that Wainwright is more valuable pitching the eighth inning every other day?

Much as I'm with you that I don't want him in the pen, I'm much more inclined to think that, once he's in the rotation (assuming he performs well), he's there to stay.

only as a worst-case scenario
But I think if Mulder isn't ready to begin the season and the Cardinals have five starters, and one of them isn't doing obviously badly, they might drink some of the Wainwright's an Ace Reliever flavor-aid.

I don't think it WILL happen, but I can see how it could happen.

Why are we doing this?
He's finished. We have enough question marks in the rotation without adding yet another.

Mulder is a sunk cost...

Acquire Jason Johnson!

Cause Mulder,
Weaver and Soup are the three best FA pitchers out there. I hope they sign him and Weaver. Let Wainwright cover for Mulder. Then Wainman returns to the pen. In '08 Wells is gone and Wainman fills his spot.

With Mulder signed for two years and Weaver with a third year option they will not be blocking any of our future stars in AAA. Plus they should realative bargins.
