an observation on suspensions

maybe it's in part living in denver, but the discrepancy between nba supensions and mlb suspensions is grating on me.  melo throws a punch and is suspended for just under 20% of the season and begins serving immediately.  barrett throws several punches and seemingly never serves a reduced suspension that accounts for less than 10% of the season.  as long as i'm ranting, the nhl flipping encourages fighting.  i guess the question for the board is if and when mlb actually begins enforcing suspensions...and if they should.

And how about
Aging NYM reliever, apparently caught doing PEDs during the playoffs, gets suspended only AFTER the playoffs end...  how many innings did he pitch after his tainted urine was collected?  We'll never know.

Don't
Why does everyone bring hockey into this whole fighting and suspensions nonsense. Fighting in the NHL is not against the rules beyond the assessment of matching minor penalties. Fighting in the NBA,MLB, and the NFL are suspendable/fineable offenses. The NHL pretty much condones fighting unlike all the other sports so don't try to compare fighting in any other sport to the NHL.

MLB does enforce suspensions.....
they just aren't served immediately because player's can appeal and won't serve the suspension until the appeal is heard and a decision is made, which usually takes a few weeks.  I don't know how that works in the NBA.

I do find it curious
that the brawls in the mostly white MLB are kind of winked at and laughed off, whereas brawls in the mostly black NBA are viewed as crimes against humanity.

If Melo got 15 games, then the kid on the Knicks who knocked down the kid on the Nuggets should have gotten 15 games as well for precipitating the whole thing.

But back to baseball... brawling does not have a place in our game. Charging the mound should bring an immediate suspension of at least five games.
