Drew hurt?

I read this articlehttp://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ and I couldn't help but laugh. I remember the "Battery Game." My wife and I drove down from Syracuse to the Vet. We were in the parking lot and heard a chorus of Boo's. I told her then that Drew must be up. Well, after we got to our seats it all got worse. At the time I felt horrible for the young Mr. Drew, but now the irony of this makes me laugh.

Is it ironic
Is it ironic that the sky is blue?  Is it ironic that the sun has risen, yet again, in the East?  No, it is simply The Way of Things.

So it is with JD Drew and injuries.

people over use "ironic"...
also "literally," and "unique"

Literally...
David Cross, anyone?

"He LITERALLY ripped his head off on that play!  Oh my!"

he literally...
ascended to heaven and dined with the gods for seven glorious days and nights and they blessed him with this god-like defensive capability, then stoped time and at the apropriate time made the switch....

I gotcha.

Ironic is the worst of those though
Especially that song.

Someone needs to take Alanis Morrisette(sp?) aside and teach her what irony actually is.

I liked Drew.  Some of those problems were reoccuring and you could say were either his fault for having more mechanics in some part of his game, or at the very least because he didn't rehab well enough.  But some of those problems(like the broken hand he got from a high heater from DAvid Wells, what was that? 2000? 2001?) were just freak accidents that could have happened to anyone.

Not saying I feel bad for him.  I find it hard to pity someone who makes in one day's work what I make all year.

I like unique...
people are always describing things as "sooo unique" or "the most unique."  Unique is an absolute/ toggled term, something is either unique (there's nothing else like it) or it isn't (there is something like it).  Its not a gradient, its fixed.

Its like saying albert pujols hit "sooo 49 homeruns" or "the most 49 homeruns"

don't make no sense.

Tragedy is the one that pisses me off
people go around calling any bad thing that happens 'a tragedy.'  I hate, hate, hate that.

What about "hero"?
Now there's an over-used word these days...
"The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge."

ok maybe Irony is the wrong word
But I still had to laugh. He opted out of his contract with the Dodgers and signed this big deal. Now it looks like it will be reduced in some way. Because he failed his physical.

So says Webster...
Irony: An event or result that is the opposite of what might be expected.

I think JD's current plight could be called ironic. The definition is quite broad...

JD opted out of an immense contract for an even bigger contract that, his agent assured him, would certainly be offered. Now he may end up with less or nothing.

Didn't one of Aesop's fables cover this.

Acquire Jason Simontacchi!

I find it ironic
that such a tragedy would befall a literally unique player like Drew.

Did Drew....
Know about this?  Did his agent?  Are they just as "surprised" as the rest of us?  Wow!  If he knew he was injured he's a weasel.  If he didn't, I'll use the word unfortunate instead of ironic.
