how about Pat Burrell?

I know the biggest concern seams to be pitching, but we do need a left fielder and a second baseman. With the numbers that the bats have signed for this year Burrell's contract looks less ridiculous. He is due 13 mill '07 and 14 mill in '08. If the Phills were willing to throw in say 2 mill a year I would be willing to talk. Maybe say Reyes and Looper for Burrell and 4 mill. Any thoughts?

You can't trade Reyes

when we already have three open slots in the rotation. That just doesn't make sense.

Additionally, I'm not sure the Phillies will move Burrell since a) they lost out on Soriano and b) Burrell has at least a partial no trade clause. He's a good bat (certainly more reliable than Duncan and better than Encarnacion) but I don't see our clubs matching up on this one. The Phillies would, if anything, probably be more interested in our LH relievers like Flores.

I don't mind Burrell...

even if the Cards had to pay his entire contract. The problem is they cannot trade Reyes for anything other than another starter this offseason. Since Howard would block Duncan at first, I don't see us as being a very good match with the Phils.

Money aside, I'd take Burrell over Lee and maybe Soriano.

Burrell would be great fit..

Burrell would be a great bat to put in our line-up, and I think Philly is still looking to move his contract> I don't think I would be willing to deal Reyes though, and if Philly is still lokking to shed payroll, we wouldn't have to. Check out his numbers, besides last years dip in RISP, he has been fairly consistent with RBI's.

wilson was a nice find for

115,000 or whatever the meager change he actually cost the cardinals were but I wouldn't want him getting more than 100-150 ABs over the course of the year. He's doesn't really have a lot to offer defensively or offensively.

Plus he's cheap! The new So and one of several RH hitters we need to platoon with Jimmy, and Chris (and whoever else we acquire). No doubt Cruz should be a Card next year (2M/yr?)

I'd gladly take Cruz over Wilson any day of the week. That also would make Duncan more expendible if we saw a huge trade opportunity.

I hope we go after someone with a little more pop (craig wilson?) than cruz. I like Cruz to complement Duncan against lefties and as a defensive replacement as well as spelling Jimmy in center. I don't like Cruz if he's a replacement for Duncan.
