amaury marti update

I don't have the energy or inclination to do a bunch of research etc, but check out this line for Amaury Marti so far in the AFl:

OBP .486/SLG .848/OPS 1.334

vs left handers.  33 AB, so granted, it's a small small sample size, and he is a geezer amongst babes, but he seems like a perfect platoon partner for lil dunc... and we control him for the rest of his career for basically free.

Overall, he's .378 OBP/.571 SLG/.949 OPS.

Has anyone actually watched him play?  How is he in the OF?  Anyone have his L/R splits from this past season?  I know his overall numbers weren't good, but he's righty and we only need him to hit well against lefties, and MiLB.com only has the most recent team stats.

At the very least it's nice to see him tearing up the AFL...

Marti
He hit his first home run since early in the AFL season in today's game against Mesa. (Off left-hander Blake McGinley...)

This article gives a glowing report of his outfield play.

This article is all-around awesome.

Marti the 2007 Gooch?
It would be nice if Marti can be the RH bat Cards are needing coming out of Spring Training. Wonder how his skills compare with Taguchi's and if Marti may well replace So as a reserve OF. If JuanE remains an everyday starter (a phrase that will always make my stomach churn) and isn't platooned, traded or dumped, perhaps Marti is the guy to platoon with Chris Duncan. Marti certainly isn't getting any younger and I don't think a jump from AA would be out of the question if he has a good showing ST. Certainly the price would be right.

OBP
Marti's power and defense are supposedly awesome—he's supposed to have a cannon for an arm, between him and Schumaker we might actually get some outfield assists next season.

He's got a serious problem taking pitches, though. In the AFL, he drew only 3 walks to 23 strikeouts. In the 2006 regular season, his K:BB ratio was 67:22 and 41:13 at AA. Chris Duncan figured out pitch selection at the MLB level, though.
