Do you want Gonzo?

Alot of stories have been going around involving the Cardinals outfield options, and after the Edmonds signing, particularly Luis Gonzalez. Gonzo says he wants to come here and can be had for alot less than the sure-to-be insanely over-priced one hit wonders like Gary Matthews Jr.
Walt said he wanted to get "the best quality pitcher and the best quality hitter" and Gonzo may not appear as that in the first glance, but with further research I think his extra base hits and club house charm could make him a good rental at a good price giving us more money to go after a pitcher and a second baseman, so what do you think?

I Like it
for the right price. We need someone to consistantly get on ahead of Albert and Gonzo can do that.

gonzo
i say yes because when he was on diamond  backs i went to 3 games and he sighed outside of stadium.  A very nice person. If he wants to be here let him be here.

Well
If we can get someone dynamic in a trade for Duncan, then I'd be up for it. But honestly, we need to either use Duncan now, or utilize the hype surrounding him and trade him now. Now is the time to take action with Duncan - one way or the other.

no, no, no
please no. He had a .796 OPS in Coors Lite last year. I really don't think he'll be any better than Duncan in 2007.

Sure I'd take him, but only at minimal cost
In '06 he posted a .796 OPS playing in Arizona.  There is no way he puts up numbers any better than that hitting in the heavy air of Busch Stadium.

On the otherhand he may be the veteran player that the Cardinals need to stabilize the clubhouse.  If Walt could get him for under $3-4M in a 4th OF role, I'd be okay with it.

i didnt
know that our clubhouse was unstable...
maybe its just me...
I could see him as a fourth outfielder,
but he's done as a starter...
Gonzo now is what i see Jimmy ballgame as in a yaer or two

Well
He'd be nice insurance in case Duncan doesn't live up to last year. We needed Preston to fill in for the playoffs, and personally I'd much rather have Gonzo as our fourth option than Wilson.
