October Daddy

On September 29th, back when the Cards were entering their final regular season series against the Brewers and facing meltdown, lboros wrote:

"and let me get a disclaimer out there ahead of time: in the event that my inattentive weekend should coincide with a season-ending winning streak -- should the cardinals suddenly turn into champions and win these last three games 10-0 -- October Daddy will not entertain the suggestion that, for good luck's sake, he should continue to avert his gaze during the playoffs. October Daddy will be in front of the set for every pitch, come what may -- and if that is deemed to be bad for the mojo, the cardinals will just have to find a way to counteract it."

Tonight our team is one game away from a championship.  (I was forced to watch the game on a 3-hour delay, and that had to be the most exciting World Series game I've ever seen.)  But there's no question; we've met October Daddy's demands.

As soon as AW retires the final batter, I log onto VEB to share in the moment, and the first sentiment I see is from lboros:

"not a work of art . . . but man i will take it. the cards did a lot of things right, tigers did a lot of things wrong --- with results as you would expect."

oof!  A respectable viewpoint, but clearly lboros'.  My question:  When does October Daddy show up?  We're a game away from winning it all!

no point
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say I had a point.  That post from late September cracked me up; to me it suggested that the reasoned eloquent Dr. Jekyll who's run an excellent blog all year turns into a Mr. Hyde come October.

I was just being giddy.  Go Cards.

got it
i wasn't sure what that meant.

the Mr. Hyde you are looking for doesn't show up on the blog -- but he does appear here at the house, when there are children tugging at Oct Daddy's pant leg wanting attention, and Oct Daddy is saying: "shhhh! the tying run is aboard --- go away and play with some matches or something!"
