Cheap Owners = No Allstar Game in 2k9

The MLB Writers Association have decided to withhold allowing the All-star game to take place in St. Louis in 2009, stating the stadium is not fit to hold the event. Apparently their main beef was with the press box, which apparently is exposed, has no air conditioning or heating, and doesn't have a great view of the field. Therefore Dewitt and Co. will get a list of things they will have to improve in order for the Allstar Game to get reinstated back here for 2009.

Forget About It
I dont even want the All-Star Game anymore. MLB has jerked us around about it for far too long, and it's not like any St Louisians are going to get tickets unless they work for an MLB sponsor.

I work in sports info at my college.

Something tells me that the press
won't need a heater for a mid-July game in St. Louis.  Prima donnas.

How does the MLB writer's assn have any say?  Isn't it up to MLB where the game is played?  Seems to me the writers have no choice and can just watch at home like the rest of us if they prefer.

Writers
I too don't understand why the Baseball Writer's Association has any bearing on whether the Cards host the All-Star Game or not.  Why does MLB need to kiss their asses?

Forget About It, part 2
Since the last time the "Baseball City", Saint Louis, hosted an All-Star game in 1966:

-Houston has gotten 3 all-star games

-Pittsburgh has gotten 3 all-star games

-Anaheim, San Francisco, Detroit, Atlanta, Cinci, Milwaulkee, Seattle, Cleveland, San Diego, and Philly have all gotten 2 all-star games

-The Country of Canada has combined for 2 all-star games

So after getting screwed out of it for all of those years, and then building a beautiful new stadium for the partial purpose of getting an all-star game, we might not get one because the baseball writers demand AC?

Keep your stupid all-star game Selig. Try not to end it in a tie.

Gawd
Those numbers are eye-opening...

Oh well, maybe Commissioner Milquetoast will step in and get us our All-Star Game anyway... :-)

Hasn't Bernie pissed and moaned in his column a couple of times about the pressbox at the new stadium?

"He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again."

Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh's pressbox is almost identical to ours, no AC,heating, open air. And they got the All-Star game this year.

All Star Game
I'm pretty sure the BBWA doesn't have any say in the decision of where the all star game is held. They are just saying that St. Louis shouldn't get it until the fix their press box. I don't think the climate control is that big of deal. I've heard the amount of space and the view from the second row is a bigger deal.  I'm sure we'll still get the all star game in 09.
