NLCS (San Diego versus St Louis) Predictions

Lets see a community poll for first round of playoffs.  The Cards may have not played well in their last two weeks and San Diego won the season series 2-4, but the Cardinals will have a well rested Carp going in game one and four if things go that long.

Tickets
Sorry to use the blog for tickets... I'm not selling, but rather a student living in SD looking for tickets to Thursday's game in SD (game 2).  Any one on here who has extra tickets I'd love to talk to you.  My buddy from USC and I are looking to go... somehow we both migrated west for college.  Anyways, let me know, and GO CARDS.

There's one teeny letter
that's mistaken in your diary title. ;)

And as for my prediction, I think we squeak it out in five.

I have good seats for game 5...
But I hope they get it done before then!

ESPN
All 6 of there "experts" pick SD

And Keith Law's article is full of jokes and jabs at the cards...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/series?series=stlsdg

boy would I love to prove those a-holes wrong.

Law
Keith Law really hates on the Cardinals every time he gets a chance.  He did it earlier this year too, ripping on Eckstein pre-injury and a few others.  The "Ron Flores" mistake tells me he's a total idiot.

by stlmapman on Oct 2, 2006 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions

Who?
Who's this Ron Flores character we've supposedly got in our bullpen?

by liam on Oct 2, 2006 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Well...
Given the fact that Steve Phillips picked the Pads to beat us. We will definitely beat SD.

If Keith Law
really knew baseball, he wouldn't be working for ESPN. The guy is a joke of an analyst.

Yeah, no crap
He said Pujols' HR against the Padres landed in Illinois. Pujols hit it to left field. Illinois is in right field.

He also said, "If Adam Wainwright gets a save opportunity, he has to convert it."

Absolutely brilliant insight there, Keith.

this just in . . . .
"Cards Win" is leading 51% to 49% over "Padres Win" at the ESPN poll

by ITouchedMcGee on Oct 2, 2006 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

gotta haves
Beside the obvious (starters, bullpen and Pujols) we GOTTA HAVE the following:

Somebody wake up Molina = he's got to bat his weight (hopefully higher) and gun down these guys.

Ron Belly = you wanted playoffs?  now's the time to show us the power you left on the reservation

Rolen = give just a LITTLE cover to Sir Al, please!!!

Adam = be cool, BREATHE

Marqy Marq - stay loose, buddy, we're gonna need ya . . . . . . NOT!!!!!

by ITouchedMcGee on Oct 2, 2006 3:54 PM EDT reply actions

Sheesh, I no I have been considered a pessimist
of late, but do you really think, the same club that squeeked by to win 2/4 from the Brewers is going to upset San Diego?

I know with Carp, Soup and Pujols anything can happen, but only 17% think SD will win?

Don't get me wrong I hope all I can that we will win, but I don't see us with all that better of a chance than San Diego had last year.

The '06 Cards- The New '87 Twins?

meh
we've gotten to Peavy before.  That's the key to the series in my opinion.  Gotta have the lead by the 7th and the bullpen has to nail it down.

ESPN's "Expert Picks"
Only team more shafted than the Cards on this (we got out of the first round on one expert's picks) is the Tigers (none).

ESPN Picks

by stlmapman on Oct 2, 2006 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

Are these the same experts
who unanimously failed to pick the White Sox to win the WS at the end of last year? After they had run a big pre-season story explaining why the Twins would win it all in '05?

I think ESPN needs to adopt a new logo...

"He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again."

with all due respect
i don't think it's unreasonable for pundits of any network to take an unenthusiastic view of an 83-win team . . . . . .

by lboros on Oct 2, 2006 10:33 PM EDT reply actions

But they are enthusiastic
They're enthusiastic at the prospect of seeing the Cards fall flat on their faces, which is maddening considering how little attention they seemingly paid to the good Cardinals teams from the previous two years...

I think the Cardinals got a lot of attention
over the past two years.  I don't see any more anti-cardinal sentiment than I saw anti-padre sentiment last year.
