Webb Getting Rocked

7 runs.. ERA stands at 3.10
Carpy at 3.09

Still an outside shot that both carp and apu can repeat as the cy and mvp...

Both Races are extremely close.
I think Apu may come out on top because for one he is already at the top of the throne and his team is heading to october.
Howard only edges pujols in HRs and RBI.. IMO that is not enough to knock pujols off.

Carpy has Webb edged in Whip, BAA, K's, BB's, ERA...
It will be close, but again we are heading to postseason and webby is finishing up a 4th place finish.

yeah
We needed webb to put a fat zero up against SD today and he didn't come through for us.  He gets nothing!

i think a relief pitcher
is gonna get it --- hoffman or wagner

eh...
i'd say not with the fascination that the writers have with W/L

Carp and Webb are both great pitchers if not the traditional "blow you out of the water" canditates this year.  they gave it to colon last year over Mariano who was having a spectacular year.

Acquire Jason Schmidt!

well,
Hoffman certainly didn't help his cause tonight

Too bad he didn't actually blow the save.
That probably would have sealed it, besides allowing us to play L.A.  Drat - so close.

Do you think
his All-Star choke will factor into the voters' decision much?

i'm not saying
that's how i would vote; i might just give my vote to roy oswalt, now that all's said and done. oswalt's 1st in era, 1st in the league in pitcher WPA, 2d in pitcher VORP, 1st in quality starts, 1st in k/bb ratio, 2d in DIPS . . . he was nails down the stretch and deserved better in the w-l department: he led the league in "tough losses," ie he got the loss despite throwing a quality start.

carp's two blown leads in important games down the stretch will cost him the award. and prob'y should --- he hasn't been dominant enough in any single category to overcome circumstantial stuff like that.

anyway, re wagner / hoffamn, i wouldn't vote for either but i'm trying to predict the behavior of the actual voters. the ESPN cy predictor says billy wagner will win --- webb 2d, carp 3d, hoffman 4th, oswalt 5th.

Webb
Not only cost himself the Cy but he cost me a few hundred dollars in my fantasy World Series.

Color me unhappy.

(but not about the Cards!)

Cheers

MVP
Now that Philly and Houston are out I think Apu is a no-brainer MVP.
