Around SBN: Clippers Need To Realize That Spurs Are The Anti-Grizzlies

Game 80 Open Thread: July 2, 2005

the cards go with marquis, looking to become the cards' fourth (!) 9-game winner of the 1st half. the rockses with throw jamey wright. away from coors wright's 1-4 with a 4.07 era in 43 innings.

don't forget to give me some ideas on how to make creative use of the poll on the righthand sidebar --- think outside-a the box.

The Poll
Is another example of how myopic we all are (and I voted for the Cubs too).  Why on earth should we be scared of a team that hasn't made the World Series in forever and who we can only play in the NLCS?

As for creative uses, call Bernie Miklasz and tell him to write a column about how we are still stupidly afraid of the Cubs.

Early Days...
Who's going to come out of the East hugger-mugger?  Are the Nats for real -- or could they be overtaken by someone making a killer deal at the deadline?  Atlanta's hanging in without Chipper et al... are the Padres that good, or is the rest of the West that bad?

Everybody seems to have issues... The Cards have the fewest (by far.)  The hype of Wood-Prior has, to date, surpassed the actual performances of those two "aces."

Can Rolen get his numbers up to say, .280 with 20+ HR?  Can Walker get reasonably healthy?  I picked the Braves, because they're used to winning... but I may very well have a completely different read in another month!  Ah, baseball... ya gotta play every day!

Ugh.
Second time Pujols has GIDP on a potential game winning at bat - I think he pushes too much at the end of the game, trying to make too much out of too little. The foul pitch before the grounder was a perfect example of an awful swing - not something I've come to expect from Pujols.

i saw it
the same way on the 1-0 pitch in the 9th ---- undisciplined swing, very un-albertlike.

that's a really dreadful loss
