the p-d's elder statesman died last night at the age of 87. i grew up reading the guy and listening to his commentaries on kmox. he claimed (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) to have saved the 1967 world series for the cardinals by grabbing a couple of egg sandwiches from a coffee shop for an unfed bob gibson before game 7.
